If you are fishing for mackerel a paternoster is fine but tip the hooks with a small pieces of mackerel, you can also use a set of feathers and work them that will work shortly, but with regards to the garfish people tend to float fish for them using mackerel strip, as you need the bait as high up in the water as possible. |

Maybe you should ask the beach anglers how to catch other species. |

Rocket, without doubt, is the man for sound advice on fishing Southend Pier.
I fish the stem fairly regularly and have found that during the flood the 2nd, 3rd and 4th hours are the most productive, and that during the last two hours it goes very quiet. The fishing then tends to pick up again during the 2nd and 3rd hours of the ebb.
Tight Lines. |

Shame you never asked yesterday, as I went out and showed fish4fish how to collect crabs today, and I managed to get 30 peelers and 17 jellies in under an hour, but next time I go either pier fishing or collecting crabs I will post something on the site.
You can get on the pier 24hrs a day, as long as you get a pass from either the pier itself or the council office, but you do need to belong to a fishing club. |

Private message limely1 and ask him to join the East Coast Fishing Club, which has a forum section here. |
