Sorry to bring up a relatively dead thread.
I was looking through the forums for an answer to a question. Im going to buy the Daiwa longbeam 13'. Now it seems a decent price for me to begin with, given the company that made it, and reviews seem decent enough.
Im completely new to sea fishing, so need to build up some gear. Now, I have a Shimano AERO 8010 GT Baitrunner, which I used for Carp fishing.
Its a well built sturdy reel that cost me something like £70 about 6 years ago (before I had kids and money was easy and frivileous (sp?)).
Im assuming this puppy will do me fine for my first attempts. Can anyone confirm this? Is there a particular reason why its not recommended??
Thanks

The Highland Fling was always a popular reel, as was the "Cumberland Square", which should prove a good workout for any beginner.
Your carp reel will probably dissolve in a few sessions, so buy a cheapo sea fishing reel - try the Okumas - or anything recommended by Eccles.
Good luck |

Hi All,
I've just ordered myself a Shimano Exage S210 spinning rod to take on holiday to Cornwall with me (I fancy throwing a few lures in while I'm away!)
However, I need to get a reel to go with this rod - could anyone recommend a compact reel to partner my new rod? It'll mainly be used in the sea for fun while I'm on holiday and during canoeing trips, so I would rather not spend a fortune.
many thanks

Any sort that is not used by Screaming, as his ones always seem to come with a factory installed ready-made Birdie straight out of the box |
Apparently he twisted his knob too hard and broke it. Penn have fixed it for him...............................................Didn't know they did plastic surgery
He IS going to go blind  |
alot cheaper, they used superglue |
