Hi All,
I've just ordered myself a Shimano Exage S210 spinning rod to take on holiday to Cornwall with me (I fancy throwing a few lures in while I'm away!)

However, I need to get a reel to go with this rod - could anyone recommend a compact reel to partner my new rod? It'll mainly be used in the sea for fun while I'm on holiday and during canoeing trips, so I would rather not spend a fortune.

many thanks
Matt

One of the Okuma Impact reels get good reviews and they are cheap too. There are different reel sizes so you should be able to get sorted easily. If you would prefer a multiplier, then an Okuma 20 with the level wind would be better.

Any sort that is not used by Screaming, as his ones always seem to come with a factory installed ready-made Birdie straight out of the box

HANG ON !

The end plate of my SMag Xtra has a crack in it accoring to PENN. Also, the magnets are not doing what they should - i.e. being magnetic.

Another problem is that there is too much gap between the bearings and the spool at the other end of the reel, so they have fixed that aswell.

NRRRRRRRRR

Trouble is Concrete is jealous that he does not have a gap between the ears that can be cured, his is full of concrete and it won't break down for 500 years.

have a look at the Okuma range, the Impact is a bit too basic.... I have recently bought a pair of Okuma Opti-drag ODB-150 reels. Front drag, bait runner facility, nicely balanced and a pleasure to use.... with spare sppol and all for £20 each , with a 5 year warranty............can't go wrong.

I have actually seen concrete break down.

When queing up for pies, we got to the counter and they were all sold out.

So he sat on the floor and cried.

Have to agree with other folks 'bout Okuma's - have two Okuma Pro 365 FS reels which some guy was selling for £20 a while back on ebay. Well made, come with spare spools and I can chuck them over 140 yds on a good day.

Yer not 'sposed to be bird nesting this time of year mate, wait 'til the spring then you can get started at it again. Actually, can't be bothered with multipliers meself (except out in the boat). Doesn't seem a lot of point as I can cast where I want with a fixed spool and I am not interested in Tope, Conger and the like which might require a multiplier if hooked from the shore.

If you're looking for a small spinning reel to go with your rod try the Shimano Aero GTE 5000B - a fixed spool baitrunner. Expensive at about £75 (much more than an Okuma) but a fantastic bit of kit.
