Bollocks.

Right, now that I've got off on the wrong foot it can only get better.

I live in Jolly old Sarfend but I currently do the vast majority of my fishing in the Blackwater estuary.

I've been sea fishing long enough that I can remember Scars Elbow being a crowded area on a winters weekend. Thats about 30 years ago. I was born and bought (dragged?) up on canvey Island and spent most of my spare time in my formative years fishing the various marks around Canvey. If I wasn't doing that themn I was bait digging/collecting.

When I got into courting lasses the fishing took a back row seat, I was only going two or three times a year. That was untill about three years ago when I bought a weekend retreat on Mersea (alright, its a caravan but weekend reteat sounds sooooo much nicer!). Having bought "Chez Nous" I was able to get out to fish most weekends, but the weekend tourist types kept pissing me off with thier constant "have you caught owt?"

So I bought a small boat to get me off of the shore. Its only big enough for two to fish off of but seeing as I'm the anti-social type I'm normally out on my own. I fish within the estuary, thats quite far enough in a 16 footer!

Married, two boys (4+6yo) and mortgaged to the hilt. When I die they inherit the debt.

Ithangyew.

sheddy,

30 years experience hardly makes you a newbie - an angler returning to the fold is probably a better description.

I spent many a happy session fishing in similar sized dinghys on the Colne and Blackwater Estuarys during my late teens and 20s and caught some good fish so i think you should do pretty well once you get the hang of the place - the Colne Bar was a very productive favourite mark for many years.

Sea angling is one of those interests that people return to as their life changes, I think it just gets into your blood - welcome back

Welcome to the Madhouse Sheddy.

I am the product of 900 years total inbreeding and according to this lot the site's resident alcoholic. Just because I stumble about a lot.

Oh and put sherry in my hot soup on Orford Island in the middle of the night.

Ah its so satisfying to hear of siblins, nephews and cousins moving off Canvey to broaden their horizons and spreading their wings! My job is done!
where was it you said you moved to Sheddy.

Oh and one last piece of advice Sheddy, if Edgey asks for a drink use a small glass, he's resorted now to using a bowl pretending to have soup in it..
P.S dont believe everything Edgey says, 900 years of inbreeding? he dosn't look a day older than 600 years.

If you were looking for any degree of sanity, you've come to the wrong place! Edgey can remain upright (p**sed) in any weather conditions, Concrete is a one man carbon emissions nightmare (you try and get a word in!), Soleman seems to catch fish simply by looking at the water (kind of resident divine being), Scitter is far too pretty to be a sea angler, MadKev is (although we're not entirely sure what it is that he's mad about and most of the time he just seems to be slightly vexed) and I am firmly of the belief that I look debonair while wearing a bush hat!

All in all, having read your initial post, I'd say that you'll fit in perfectly!!

Enjoy.

I never realised that there was a season for plastic bags (Thames trout we used to call 'em) on Canvey, I thought they was an all year round species.
