Hello,
I am planning on upgrading my beach outfit. I have around £250 - £300 to spend. Doing some research it seems the Red Metal is a great rod. I do prefer a FS to M.
Does any one out there have any experience with this rod?
cheers

Sorry mate, but I don't have any experience with this rod, but what about going in to a local supplier and handling a rod in this price bracket. Ask the shop to fit a reel on it and try a few out for size, weight etc.
Good Luck! |

Just because it is really expensive, doesn't mean it will compliment your casting style.
Go to a local tackle shop and try as many different types of rod as you can, try everything IMAX x Stroke y, Century CCC - Carbon Metal etc, ZZippies, you name it - they're all within budget.
Sorry, but I'm being brutally honest. Just because it's on the back page of TSF and Sea Angler, doesn't mean it is the best.
Anyway, will you assess the situation and decide on which tip to use ?
Bollix.
I thought so. |

I will probably never use an expensive rod (unless someone buys me one). Why should I when I can catch fish regularly with a cheapie 13ft? That said I also am looking for something with a bit better action at the moment. Having looked and tried, I think I will go for a Shakespeare Salt Beach or a Fox Impressa - both under £100 but well made. I did think about a Daiwa Sandstorm but seems just a bit too stiff to me. |

I bought a Diawa Moonraker Z a few years ago. I can't remember how much it cost but I know it wasn't cheap. The rod has seen very little use, I can't cast it. It is far too stiff for my "style".
Allegedly its a nice rod though! |

It is anice rod - and if you put it on the market you'd get plenty of interest. I've seen posts all over from people asking if they know of one for sale. |

I might do that. Its the 13' job as well. As far as I can recollect it is also unmarked. |

I own 2 moonraker ZX 13' rods and would say as an all rounder I cant fault them. I think I paid about £175-£200 each rod when new about 8 years ago. The only thing I would change about them now is they could be a tad stiffer for greater casting prowess but thats only because my casting has improved over the last 8 years and am now ready to move onto a more powerfull rod.
My advice is keep it, they are great rods. |

I've just checked it out and its a ZS130M. Probably bought it from Kim Parker when he had the Canvey Angling Center! Virtually unmarked it is. I might have to break out the 6500 and find a field somewhere.
Might even attach a shock-leader ........
Hat, coat, door ..... I know the drill. |

Seeing as Madkev is back on the site - (I've missed his top tips) Top Tip for practising in the field- use a Hi-visibility shockleader so you can find your lead more easily if it cracks off. Surest way to get banned from casting in a field is leads lying around all over the place. |

What do people think of the Daiwa Sand Storm or rods by Grauvell if i do not go to the expense of the Red Metal, these or my other options. Ideally i want a 3 piece 14ft rod that can handle a 6oz lead as i fish around Clevedon from time to time and the tide here is ferocious.
I am a FS user so any help.
cheers

Might be worth looking at the Greys rods, they do a couple of 3 piecers and you get a lifetime guarantee with them. They are also well within your budget. I'm always suspicious of a replacement rod that comes with an all over paint job. Who's to say that it isn't the previous range tarted up? |
