Why is it that when I pack away my rods in the shed for several months, I get them out and they don't fit together? This has happened to my Century rods and now my Zziplex bass rods. Could it be possible for damp to get in and swell the joint slightly? I have now got the Zippys inside next to the radiator, just to see. |

Tut Tut Mr C- my rods go to bed with me every night- no cold damp garages for my babies- they stay nice and dry and warm right by my bedside through the daytime as well |

Yes its damp you barbarian! Either that or all the sh@t you left caked on them from the last time you used them - you never change do you?
Wash the joints with warm soapy water and rinse clean of the soap. Dry off with papertowel but don't put them by the radiator, just stand them in a warm, moisture free room for a few days and try the fit again. Carbon, Glass and Kevlar weave are only waterproof when coated and polished. The spigots are always matt which is what makes them grip - this also makes them water permeable.
One last thing, whatever you do don't put wax on it - it doesn't agree with some modern mixes of Carbon - you could end up with the joint permently stuck. |

Is that a long-winded way of saying your wife is making you live in the shed?

ive found this happens with low end coarse rods, now i know these rods your referring to aint poor quality but it is normally the carbon/resin mix that causes this, the more resin the more likely the joints swell i think.
it also depends on the carbon quality.
I think beachcasters tend to be made of a grade of carbon that is high in strength as are cheap coarse rods, but due to the surface of the carbon being able to flex a lot more it tends to shrink and swell.
my conny nemesis shrinks a bit when the male joint is exposed to hot sunlight but its fine once the rod is pieced together and isnt exposed anymore.
just take a hairdryer to it, and if the problme continues just rub the joint lightly with a very fine sandpaper. we often do this with poles in coarse angling. |

At your age, I'm not surprised that you are suffering from tight joints. Try cod liver oil!  |

Surely the only solution to tight joints is to roll them looser. |
