hi folks,
i fancy trying some bass fishing looking for hints and tips baits lures etc whats best? which areas are best to fish rocks, surf etc. i boat fish in st.andrews scotland north east coast, can bass be caught here? i usually go deep for cod mackrel and pollock on feathers and lures which is good but feel a new species would be nice for a change.
thanks in advance for your time, steve |

Hello shamill, I cant say I know your Coastline but if there are Bass to be had then many methods can be tried, On a bright day walking along the coastline randomally chucking out and retrieving a spinner ie Dexter Wedge can be good ata times. if your after that Specimen Fish find a nice surf and cast a joey mackerel flapper into the second breaker as this is where Large Species can be found hogging the shorline and friend of mine used this tactic about 3 years back down my way and caught a massive 13lb 10ozs Bass, There are many tactics and different baits for Bass fishing though your best bet would be to check out your local Tackle shop and ask for their up to date advice etc as tackle shops are most of the time more than willing to help out.
Cheers

cheers mrix
i'll try this out, see how i get on, when you say cast in to the second breaker should i fish with float or lead?
have to go buy a few spinners, dont know if i've got any used to fish rivers years ago with them without any success, kinda gave up with them. i'll let you know how i get on. could i fish from the boat close to rocks with a wedge for bass? this would be ok wouldn't it?
i'm taking the boat out tomorrow so may try it then.
thanks for your time much appreciated. |

Hi shamill, yea I supose you have an option with the weight use heavier weight say 5 to 6 ozs if you dont want to much movement in the surf or something lighter so it moves around a bit, in both cases its best to have a fairly long trace anywhere from 4 to 6 ft.

I also cant see why not, Bass lures like Dexter Wedges are fairy heavy anyway so maybe good for your idea.
good luck anyway
look forward to hearing how you got on
Cheers
