Went to South Fambridge for 5am and fished 1 hour before and 2 hours after high water - blanked.
not one bite, it rained and was windy. Not good - talk about living in hope. I had 2 rods tried lug, mackrel & squid all combinations. - It may have been a bit optimistic having a size 4 pennel on one of the rods. |

Hard luck - 10 out 10 for enthusiasm though.....and if you don't try, you don't get.
Anybody that will start fishing at that time of the morning deserves to catch a few fish...theres just no justice in this game. |

Has anyone tried ragworm there? It's a fair way upriver and I would have thought that it would work. |

Tried rag, lug, squid, mackeral and lures and any combination of the above and had........nothing! I go back every so often just to give it a try 'cos it's only 5 minutes from home but I've never had a thing! Come to think of it, whenever I've seen anyone else there they've had nothing either! |

good point concrete - i will give rag ago next time i try. I might wait for a large lunch time tide and sneak out for a few hours when not raining.
I have had small fish from Fambridge Whiting & Rockling. Diawa swears by the place, and I think on a big tide it will fish well. In fact the fish i've had from fambridge are bigger than the fish i've had from the pier.
So duncan where do you catch in southend? |

Short answer is that I don't! Other than the two small specimins that I had on the pier I've blanked everywhere! Scitter and me made a concious decision to go further afield some time ago and now I only seem to blank in the Southend area! I think it's a case of rather driving for an hour or so and knowing that there's a good possibility of catching or going somewhere where you know the odds are you wont. |

I'd like to give it a go in the Summer for a bass or two. I've been looking at the place on "Birds Eye View" on Live Maps. Looks good. |

It's supposed to be good for bass at dawn or dusk in the summer. Rule of thumb apparantly is look for the seagulls and cast just beyond them with feathers or a lure and you'll catch. I was a bit late getting any spinning gear this year but I will give it ago this summer. Best bet is towards the mouth of the river from Wallasea (Essex Marina). |

Mmmm. Sounds interesting. I'm already getting that bass twitch back again, not that it ever goes away.
Careful Dunc, we're talking fishing instead of rowlocks. |

See, we can do it if we put our mind to it! I live about 10 minutes from Essex Marina. If you fancy it with a bit of light spinning gear in the summer you're welcom to come over and we'll have a crack at it and see if we can break my duck! |

I've not done that well spinning around these parts, but float fishing, that's another story. Nothing big, but great fun. |

My mate Phil got me into float fishing years ago. The odd flounder turns up now and again and I once saw a guy catch a sole float fishing. I wouldn't have believed it if i hadn't seen it for myself.
Blakdog's been float fishing for ever, we used to watch him catch smelt down Brightlingsea. I haven't had a smelt for years. And yes they do smell like cucumbers. |
