Including general sea fishing chat, it seems that us EAST COAST Anglers are tops when it comes to posting on this site......
Now it could be that you Southerners, Northerners, Welsh and Scotish members are somewhat lacking in the art of putting finger to keyboard.
Or it could be that you are perplexed by the skills of us East Coast lads and to the fact that we hold intelligent conversations about the skills of our chosen sport.

And if this doesn't start a new cod war, then my name isn't MrIx.......

I know a lot of the posting is banter on the ECF, but to be quite honest, I don't see any harm provided it doesn't venture into other areas, such as tips and tricks etc etc.

Yes - we post a lot but looking through the postings, I think overall, the majority is fishing related.

If I spent all my spare time fishing instead of posting, what would you have to talk about taff.......

Fair point but consider this:

The banter is silly, inane and sometimes a bit dumb but we all work hard for a living and not having time to spend down the Pub for a chat, it's the next best thing. I have made new aquaintances and even friends through this who I am able to contact through a number of means now. It's also highlighted other common interests. If the spirit of the site is not to encourage us to get together, share ideas and above all have a bit of fun, then what the hell is the point? If all I wanted was a textbook of how to fish, I'd buy a bl**dy book. Lighten up and join in-you never know, you might like it! I'm well aware that your comments are directed at three maybe four members in particular and I'm fairly sure that those members will feel that you are more than entitled to your opinion. No offence will be taken I'm sure and we'll agree to differ. Sometimes in the banter comes a nugget of pure gold! In the mean time, we'll never be short of someone to enjoy our hobby with because we have connected, communicated and got to know each other through diverse conversations. The general chat that goes on is harmless. I'd have thought that it was nice to feel part of a community where you can ask anything and an answer from someone practically anywhere. The fact that someone takes the time to reply in this day and age should mean something more than a determination to stick to the accepted dogma. Anyway, next time theres a bit of silliness going on, get posting and get to know a few people, then when you get invited out for a fishing session, I guarantee you'll learn a hell of a lot more!

Cheers for now

Duncan

Hello all, I am noticing more and more non-fishing related posts day by day :? This is a sea fishing site not an overall general chatroom etc  .
I think having to many unrelated posts for the site is not healthy and the credibility will drop as a sea fishing resource
I can understand that many of you like to have friendly banter and maybe we can think of another solution, One idea I have is live chat, how does that sound? I run gaming websites and we use a system called teamspeak where people can talk live if you have a mic that is
I have a spare teamspeak system which I can use which could be very useful for sea-fishing.org members. or maybe I could install a text chatroom???
what are your views?
Cheers

Obviously, everybody will have their own preference but I've always preferred text chat.

You go sell your gear to some other poor sod...........

Oh, sorry Boss, I didn't realise it was you..../

It's a great idea..............

Seriously though, I don't think you can chat with fellow mates that you have been fishing with, without general chat coming into the equasion.
A seperate live chat may be the answer, but one may ask the question....
" Will this site end up as just a chatroom site?

i was only trying to sort of join in the banter in my own silly way, but at the same time opinions are like a**e holes we've all got on1

I have nothing against people having a great time big grin there is a group of friends on here that do that and thats great 100% but I can imagine for new visitors who come here just for help on the sea fishing front its not good etc. I really love communities like this and the general chat and thats my favourite passtime actually big grin
