Had a great day out today with 'Itgottaway' and his friend Simon 'Slim' aboard top of the range charter boat ' Dominator '.
Skipper Steve, who also goes under the name of 'Pen' on this site, certainly found the fish for us.
We managed 12 sizable codling between three of us plus some good whiting.
I lost count of my tally of fish, having thrown many of the undersized ones back into the water.

'Dominator' is less than a year old and has a wc/shower, piping hot water, microwave, gas cooker and state of the art satellite navigation.
And skipper Steve does make tea if you want it.
She can take eight anglers in relative comfort, but six would be preferable.
Skipper Steve has applied to join the East Coast sea Fishing Club so he can fish some of our matches.
He has also offered the club a discount for any members who use his boat.
'Dominator' is without doubt the best charter boat I have been on for many many years.

All in all, a bloody good day out............

It's out of the marina at Burnham.........
Yeah it is a shame you and Rocket couldn't make it....
The sea started out like a mirror..... dead flat, no breeze, misty but clearing.

We fished about half a mile off Clacton Pier, too far for even the rocket to cast..
There was a patch of rough ground that the skipper Steve reckoned was not trawled.
We were getting bites pretty much straight away, mostly small whilting and codling.
The weather turned and we did manage to get a dozen sizable codling.
We were still getting good bites when we got a weather warning.
Forcast from the coastgaurd was 5 to 8 imminent so we had to cut short our fishing and steam back to the Crouch.
Steve wants to join our fishing club and has offered us a discount.
So it's another thing worth taking up.

It was a really good day and made even better by a nice cold lager in the marina bar at the end of the day....

High tide was at 4 pm, thereabouts......

We left the marina at 8am and steamed up to Clacton 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 hours.
started fishing about 9..30am and had to leave about 1.30pm...

Would have loved to have stayed and fished up to high tide and one or two hours after.

So you were fishing slack water, and by the time the tide had been flooding for a couple of hours you had to leave? Shame as if you managed to fish more of the flood you might have caught 13 fish

Well Rocket old son.....
If your charter on the 25th of this month is half as good as the one at Burnham, then I'm in for a good day.
If it's not then you should pay penance........

You will have to write on this forum 50 times.......

Limey is right..... I am a tosser....
