I thought Fishing was both a sport and a pastime to be enjoyed by all.
It suprises me the number of people who fish in the most terrible conditions and end up wet, cold and weather beaten with wind and rain.
I can understand those that travel to a venue thats some distance when the weather forcasters have got it wrong and still decide to fish, but what I can't understand are those that know the weather is going to be crap and still venture out.
Does this make me a fair weather fisherman or someone with his head screwed on?
Cheers

To be honest mate, the weather doesnt bother me one bit. I can only speak from my coarse fishing as this is my first winter Sea angling. ive spent up to two months solid winter carping fishing under a brolly, waking up covered in frost or having to put my arms though the ribs of the brolly to stop it blowing away because the wind changed at 3am. For the past 10 years ive worked as a nightclub doorman, getting threatened with knives and bottles in sweat fill clubs so its nice to be away from that, in any weather.
When i was 16 a friend and i were fishing a River, mid winter when i had mild hyperthermia, spent a few hours in hospital. Woops... roll on the next trip lol |

Also the cold, wet and windy weather puts most people off leaving the banks / beaches free |

To me its a pass-time - I have no problem killing to eat, but if I have to kill something its not a sport, certainly not to whatever it is I have to kill. |

I'm a wimp I will put up with the cold, but rain no way, but then I'm retired, so I can go anytime I like, not like some that only have 1-2 days off a week |

I'm not put off by the weather unless it's very high winds or something else which would make fishing or accessing the venue hazardous, like fog or ice.
Sport or Pastime? to my mind it's a pastime, but if darts and snooker can be classed as sports ...

It makes you sensible. If someone enjoys fishing in the freezing cold, howling gales and lashing rain all is well. For me personally I see fishing as a hobby to be enjoyed rather than something that is to be endured- it's why I gave up match fishing.
If I had a choice I'd rather be fishing in the sunshine of Australia than on a windswept beach off the North Sea.
Whatever floats your boat really. |
