Tide is a bit late - 11 pm but should be OK if you can stay 'til say 1.30 am.
Went down meself last night and it was very quiet - no whiting, codling, bass or bream but got a sole. I think the water is still too warm for the cod and whiting - maybe in a week's time. |

Inn on the Beach, about 60 yds out. I usually go to the Coastguard Station area for Cod and Whiting once the water temperature drops off a bit. |

Hey guys if you want a sole certain tactics are virtually essential, what I do:
1. Running ledger rig.
2. Short snood (15 -20 cms) with some split shot on.
3. Size 2 or 4 long shank hooks (I use carlisles).
4. Worm is the only bait, I use lug.
5. Total darkness, don't even shine yer headlamp on the water and if you have a Tilley lamp, bin it.
6. Endless patience and do not strike, just reel in when you have had two or three decent tugs.
7. Cast out around 50 - 70 yds and wait (do not fiddle about by reeling in a few yards every 5 minutes)
In my experience they do not begin to move until we have had at least three hours of darkness. I add fresh bait about every 20 -30 minutes depending on crab activity. |
