Lurchman, the Pagham Spit car park is open currently between 8.30am and closes at 8pm (sharp). Alternative launch sites are
park at end of Park Copse, Selsey or park near Pagham Yatch Club at end Sea Lane, Pagham and launch off beach, either way is only about 400 metres further than Pagham Spit. For reference to the proposed 'take-over of Pagham Harbour' by the RSPB will probably result in parkiing restrictions and payment, with the usual threats of enforcement at Church Norton & Pagham Spit (West Sussex cost saving exercise?) Even the Birdie's are going to get fleeced! |

The residents have got there first - the Pagham Spit Car Park was closed to the public from 30th July. Nothing to do with the RSPB but an argument between the residents who pay for the upkeep of the private access road to the car park, and West Sussex County Council, which they believe should be paying for the repairs which are needed because of the public using the road to go to the car park. The council have not offered them enough dosh - so the car park closed.
Looks like the best alternative is to launch by Pagham Yacht Club, and use the car park at the end of Sea Lane (there is a small charge I think). Otherwise it is possible to join the yacht club for a day or a weekend, for a small fee, I think - then they have a car park and other facilities - hot showers, changing, bar etc.
Dont try parking in the private access road to the Spit - the rumour is that you will be clamped, or blocked in by the residents.
