Fished last Friday 23rd July. First sea fishing for over 30 years.
Caught 7 wrasse and a small bass of about 2lb. Returned all the fish.
Bait used was rag & frozen black lug.
Had a bite every cast . Missed about 60/70% . Used a carp rod & a very old light beachcaster. Using 18lb mono and casting about 30/40 yards. Mono had too much stretch to set the hooks fully. Lost a big fish on floating rag, Put a decent bend in my 3lb carp rod & took a lot of line before I lost it. Had it on for about 30 sec. Dont know whether it was a Bass or a pollock.
Could have cought loads of Macrell but other half doesnt like them!.
Great shoals of them on the surface.Dont know if they were after bait fish or being chased by Bass.
Next time will use braid with a shock leader.

Hi Folks

I fished at lifebelt No 14. Dover side. Guy who sells tickets reccomened spot as less rocks. Lol. lost 3 lots of tackle in 4 casts. So switched 1 rod to float.
Hooks used were new aberdeens size 1 & 1/0. Felt the fish every time but could not set the hooks.
I bought 2off SeaBite alarms, stunning detected bites I couldnt see but on striking, fish were there.

Hi Invicta
I went to Sandfire on sunday, back towards folkestone a little way. lots of small wrasse and a couple of pouting. I had 1 rod floating for about 2 hrs not a thing. I lost 1 lead but wrecked 4 or 5 rigs by stripping or bending the hooks. The lost lead was partly my own fault, I caught the tight line on the wall while hand pulling it.
Going to hythe thursday evening hope to do a bit better there.

Mark

Hi All
I hope to go to Reculver next week; I have repaired my old beechcaster (new ring) now all I have to do is strip my old Abu 8000C down and get some large brake blocks for it. Used to use 1 small block but nearly 30 years since I last cast heavy leads in anger, would get monsterous overrun with that setup now.
Have bought some on ebay but seller is on holiday till Monday, hope he sends them pdq.
