Just sold a Diawa supercast 13ft to kayakfishing. Im sure he will give you a write up of it when he uses it. I loved that rod and it was beautiful to cast with |

The Diawa supercast I gave to Littlerabbi cost me £230, I just couldn't get used to coasters.
After giving it to him I had a fugie reel seat fitted for him and 4in removed from the butt,
Now I want it back great rod and you can really bully the fish in.

No I would not use a fixed spool on this rod as there is a chance of the line wrapping around the lower ring during the cast and getting a snap off or even worse damaging the ring itself.
If you decide to get a multiplier then dont get a cheepie but get ine with a decent breaking system.

or you could get the rod re-rung, probably cost the same as a decent 2nd hand multi and you wouldnt have the hassle of trying to get used to it.
ive seen them coleman lanterns go for £50 on their own so a good bargain was had |

I wouldn't necessarily avoid a FS with a multiplier-rung rod. I tend to feel there are too few rings on FS rods. And line catches around butt rings on those too sometimes. Give it a try first with some light casting and see how it goes. I've got a rod that is supposedly FS-rung, but is not much different to a mult-rung. |

The Diawa Supercast Paul Kerry was a far better rod though.

Yes Kieth,
I agree, the mk2's that I have are the Paul Kerry "PKSC12M", I have 11
beachcasters altogether and would only part with the Paul Kerry's the right
money, I dont use them very often as I tend to use a lighter rods due to my
upper body joint probs.

IT is the Paul kerry rod so can anyone recommend a decent multiplier to go with it about £70 £80 to spare keeping in mind that I have not used a multiplier.

I tend to shy away from the smaller multipliers but any of the Abu range have a good braking system. The reason I go for the larger reels like the Abu 7,000 range is because if a snap off occurs the you normally have enough line on the spool to carry on fishing by just putting on a new shock leader, the other reason is that at the end of a season you can reverse the line so that the line on the spool that has never seen daylight comes into use and the old section of line becomes the backing for the new section. Make sense?
