Hi folks,

I was bought by my good lady some beach fishing gear for christmas and last night I got the chance to christen it.

A colleague from work suggested that we go to Weybourne.
Arrive just as tide was turning and promptly set up.

I caught 1 small sea bass, 1 small codling, 2 rock ling. All of which went back
Colleague caught couple of stonefish and a rock ling

Was a good evening, shame though that nothing worth taking home.

Bug well and truly bitten and back again as soon as work allows

Any other good spots in North Norfolk ?

welcome, we can tell you are new to sea angling.

hint to save embarrassment when talking to sea anglers.... it is bass

sea bass are fish that exist only in America ( where they have different types of bass ) or on the menus of poncey restaurants.

To anyone who is an angler it is bass, just as a cod is a cod and not a sea cod.... there are no other sort

in English Bass has a capital if it is the proper name of someone/thing

such as the name of a brewer...

if the fishes real name was Bass, it has a capital letter.... if he really didn't have a name and was just a bass.... then there is no capital....

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your comments. Yes it was nice to catch something that size on one of my first outings to the beach.

Last session I reckon wasn't that great as very 'low' high tide if you know what I mean.

Where we fish is a shingle beach, pretty snaggy but then again that's good for fish I reckon. Don't have to cast huge distances either as very sharp drop off. With this weekends 'high' high tide it should be better but we shall see. Report to follow

Only got a rod, reel and a sand spike atm but birthday this week so I might get some pennies to spend on a few other things. Shakespeare tripod is tempting at £32 on ebay as is another reel to go with one of the other rods I've been given.

Oh well, work calls

Laters peeps

Oh just reading rules and requests about reports.

We fish at Weybourne, Norfolk. Car park down lane opposite pub. Parking charge applies until 6 in the evening. Then facing sea we walk about 500-1000yds to the right in front of cliffs. As it's a shingle beach with a steep drop there's no need to cast huge, only about 50-70 yds out. Any further and you'll be losing rigs in no time at all.

Mostly fish 2 or 3 hook flapper with 4/0 on the bottom and 1/0 on top 2 as most of fish caught have been on bottom hook with lug, occasionally rag. Tried pennel but no better or worse than flapper.

We get bait from a guy in Northrepps, £7.50 for 50 lug and there's a great little shop in Sheringham called Brights. Tiny shop but stacked to the gills. Lovely woman runs it, pleasure to do business with. She also stocks bait but £10 for 1/2lb lug.

I might give either Mundesley or Walcott a go soon. Just a couple of miles from me. These are sandy beaches with groins so will give me something different to try and see how far I can cast regularly and safely.

Anyways, needs must and all that. Laters
