Irish Forum Charity Match

I have made this a sticky as has been sugested for all those who would be prepared to suport the event either by fishing the match or helping with the organising of t5he same.

Please enter names and I will make a list in this post.

Ok can someone suggest a date and a venue. I know it has been covered in the previous thread but it would be clearer if everything was covered here. If it is a charity match do we have to be covered for third party insurance and fish under any rules and will all of us non-match fishers and other people not affiliated to any clubs be able to take part?

Basically You don't need Insurance

If you copy some of the other match rules from other forums you won't go far wrong.

All fish to be measured and returned immediately unless keeping for the table.

All fish to be measured in cms and 1 point awarded for each cm

Score card to be signed by fisher person next to you

Only one rod in the water at any one time

Maximum of 3 hooks allowed

All persons allowed to fish the match both members and non members

I would sugest a £5 enterence fee which is less than a packet of fags.

A paket of fags is nearly €9 here kieth big grin

May be when a few of the other lads post we could decide what would be reasonable. I know the club matches in Clare were €5 a couple of years ago. I am fairly sure Redmouse does a few comps may be we could get some input from him.

hi baitdigger i dont think it really matters how much is set as an entrance fee or even if it is just left to each person to give a donation of what they can as all money raised will be a great help

Hi Ed, I think it would be down Kerry way, Kerrybassman was one of the instigators and it is sort of in the middle of the country(not for you though)
Would be good to put some names to faces.
Who ever does the organising remember the bass ban in May when selecting dates.

the club im joined is €10 entry but others are €15, opens can be €20 or €25. if its a charity event id suggest €10 entry, €5 to be divided up between the top 3 and €5 to charity
if ye want ill bring score cards from the club
the way we do it is,
1 point for every cm of fish that is measured at 20cm or over, plus 5 fish points so a 20cm fish would be 20+5=25,
7 points for an undersized fish.
40 points for a doggie but no fish points,
theres points for eels and huss too but cant remember them off hand.
the reason for points for under sized fish is in case theres not much about, you could catch 3 small fish but still hand back a blank card.

next thing to do is suggest a date, try to get this done early as not every date will suit all people so the quicker its done the easier it is to change it or for people to organise time off work etc

As there are lads traveling is it worth making a full weekend fishing competition?
Say €10 for Saturday or Sunday or €15 for both.
I don't know how to go about getting any sponsors down there, I don't think I could persuade my local shop to sponsor an event taking place in Kerry. I know he gives a few prizes for the Lisddonvarna club meets.
Have we got any definite names yet. I will be there if I dont get surgery before hand. I'm due on the operating table in 8-12 weeks for a new knee so no driving for a month after.(haven't got a date yet)
We need a bit of input from a local now so we can work out dates
Does the venue fish on a low or high tide?

its a smallish estuary so probably either side of low water might be best? seems to be mainly a flounder venue with the odd turbot and bass thrown in. crab and lug for the baits. theres loads of beaches nearby tho so we could have one on cashen and another near by. if its a beach it will need to be late evening or night due to bathers

theres also a place nearby which is called nuns beach, its an unofficial nudist spot, we could fish there big grin

Right dates then- 2-3rd April(sat-sun) low tide would be around mid day give or take forty minutes as I had to use Carrigaholt times.
9-10 April(sat-sun) low tide around 3-4 pm give or take
16-17 April low tide around 10-11 am
23-24 April low around 3.30-4.30
30-1May around 5-6 pm
16-17 would be very close to spring tide the rest are ok
Any ideas? don't know what has happened to Kerrybassman who's idea it was in the first place
