A 13ft rod is perfectly Ok, a pier rod would be better about 9.5ft on a crowded pier as distance is unimportant if your fishing at the side of the pier as the depth very rarely varies and close in by the side is normally where the fish forage.

Not too sure of the area, but a 3 hook flapper with size 1/0 or 2/0 Abberdeens is a good starting point. This is the rig that I use for a venue that I don't know.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

I have only fished the pier once and used a 3 hook flapper seems to be the way to go. Also used same from the shore at southend

a boom rig might be a wise choice at the moment also,as soles are showing at some venues, size 4-6 hooks.but you cant go wrong really with a flapper rig,and like rabbi says a 13ft rod maybe a bit big for a pier (more suited for the beach really) as range really isnt an issue

all the best

Andy
