Thing is you can't get fresh mackerel in the supermarket, despite what they tell you it's always stale. Fresh it's amazing, stale it's foul! |

When trawlers go to sea they are out for a considerable time, then the fish is landed on the docks and the wholesalers get their hands on it, then the supermarket or fishmarket get it passed on to them.
The point that Im trying to make is that the fish you buy can be up to and over 3 weeks old by the time you have bought it.
Cheers

From an angling prospective and not a catching prospective it is far more rewarding to catch a speicies that dont eat as Jacko said bare hooks. As an angler i would give up if all i looked forward to is the Mackie turning up and be able to brag how many have commited suicide on my many hooks.
The art of angling is to select a new spicies and work out how to get the best fish i can using new techniques and better skill. |
