Squid Bait ?

I forgot to add that as you mentioned you like to save time by having your bait already frozen to the hook so you can save time when re-baiting.
This may save time but you are limited as to what size of baits you can then use (have you seen the size of some baits used for cod?).

Hi, the heads good too, the tentacles waving about attract the fish, you can also use the entire squid as bait on a pennel, you just push the main hook through the body, pull it through with your fingers, (if you want you can then feed lug or other baits onto the hook and push them up the line, then take the hook through the head, pull the line tight and place second hook in to hold it. i tend to disregard the head and as mentioned before i use a couple of tentacles to give it a bit of flutter in the water.

cheers guys I thought waste not want not hence why hooked the head on one of the hooks.

As for bait size, to be honest where I fish ain't seen a keeper taken in quite a while though I only really get out fishing during day-light hours not best time to go fishing.

I usually freeze them on hooks for a number of reasons the speed of re-baiting especially when you got no feeling in your fingers from the temperature lol,

and also when I freeze them I then add left over juices and left over bits of bait ie bits of mussel that are too sloppy and freeze again so that when the bait hits the water its protected to a certain degree as its frozen, and also as it warms up the juicies and the left over bits start to seperate hopefully adding a nice scent field but hey what do I know you guys are a lot more experienced than me hence why I lurve these forums.

I usually fish the tyne, usually around the blyth pier area as its about a 5 minute drive for me.

I also sometimes fish cumbria around workington area aswell when am visiting relatives who live there

the method I use for mackerel strip works equally well for squid, either whole or in strips.

the heads are good bait, stick 'em on the hook.... fish are not fussy eaters.
