Does anybody Know if the Mackerel have started to turn up yet? Is anywhere fishing well around Torbay at the moment? Seen an awful lot of bored fishermen around Slapton the last few weeks. Given the lack of catch reports recently I'm guessing no |

Last year I caught quite a few off Torquay at the end of April/beginning of May. Very nice weather I recall. So hopefully not long to wait! |

As with all things folk have to make a living and unfortunately Peter has to be robbed to pay Paul. It's not a job that I would like to do. We do have a few trawler men who are members and they can see both sides of the coin so to speak.
God knows what will happen when the conservation zones come into force, just who will it affect. Although I have notice that there is nothing planned for Scotland.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Cheers

I was catching mackerel last april, too. I`ll never forget it because i saw my first basking shark close up, down at Long Quarry. I mean no more than 6-8ft away from my mate and myself. It was huge ! and right in to the rocks

the water temps are still well below what they usually are for this time of year so unless we suddenly get a stream of warmer water come towards us in the southwest we wont get many mackerel for ages and will see fewer bass then the last few seasons. |

Mackies usually turn up around the end of may around scarborough but last year we didnt see any in numbers, as for the conservation zones that are being set up they are nothing to do with preserving fish stocks it is to do with preserving the sea bed and the grasses and corals ect that live there without theres the fish have nothing to feed on but i aint going into it as i for one i think that beam trawling should be totaly banned as a way of fishing and yes that statement will upset someone but thats my way of thinking

They're back..... They have been deep but are now showing up nearer the surface in the usual early marks so very soon they will be everywhere and also so will the tinsel chuckers out to murder them all. |

i agree to what dave has said !
conservation zones are about conservation of the sea bed, look what happen to the great barrier reef in oz, destroy, now the most part of the barrier reef are being protected & conserved, the fish and the plant life are coming back in droves, bring on the conservation zones, remember most fish species will return to the breading ground year on year,
some out there will have to come up with a new way of thinking so that a living can be made from the sea, by protecting all fish stocks world wide.
