Yeah - used 'em 4 or 5 times now.
Very light, easy to cast and sit nicely in the rest. They show up bites very well and, although the biggest fish so far is only a 3 3/4lb smutt, I'm very impressed with the way they handled when playing it.
I initially had concerns that the pair didn't match (one sat at a different angle in the tripod - one looked a lot "tippier" than the other) but bought a new tripod on Saturday and "hey presto !" - they're now a perfect match ........... I think the butt cups on my old tripod were a bit skewed !
Cheers,
Dave |

I've had no problems at all - although I haven't used them much I don't foresee any issues.
The adjustable reel seats are great - I shall be trying them "down the butt" at some point soon.

Not surprised you prefer the Sonik, I suspect they have more beef.
For the record I did finish up buying an Abu Hellbender, which is a fairly beefy rod. Within months I bought another as I liked it so much. My experience is that a 125 gram sinker (around 5 ozs) goes best and for the fishing I do that is just about perfect. I am getting past me sell by date these days but can still chuck well over 100 yds if necessary with these rods. I feel that one of the factors is that there is plenty of length between rod butt and the reel seat which allows for plenty of leverage. I dare say I could do better with more money but at just over £100 each I am quite happy for the moment. |
