The wife and I made the trip to Walton on Saturday for the first time this year. Stopped off for breakfast at the cafe before picking bait up from Metalite and hit the pier around 12.30. Walked down to the lifebelt past the second hut and set up two rods each.

We fished until 17.30 and then packed up. Final score was a 1:1 draw with a pin whiting each. Very few other fish were landed and those that were were small from approx 15-20 other rods dotted along the stem. Succesful rigs/baits were 2 up/1 down flapper #2 hooks and 2 boom rig also with #2 hooks with lug and lug tipped with squid . Tried a 2/0 loop rig for the period at dusk with bigger lug/squid cocktails just in case a stray codling was around but baits not even touched. Bright sunshine for most of the afternoon together with no chop on the water and a small tide probably didn't help.

Roll on another couple of weeks when the sea may warm up a degree or two together with some southwesterlies to bring on the spring codling.

Latest Information Re. Opening of Walton Pier for Fishing

Expectation is that depending on the weather the work will be completed mid March
