my pulley rig snood keeps tangling into the genie link on the end of my shockleader and i cant suss out why . i make my own (which aint rocket science) everything else on them work fine, release clip (breakaway imps) pulley bead (homemade, swivel with tubing through),it all runs smoothly bar the snood tangle. any ideas? makes no difference if i make short pulleys or long ones.any ideas?

HIYA Andy,
You say that the snood keeps 'tangling', could it be that the snood lengh is not rigid enough, what are the snoods made up from ie 'Amnesia' or other materials, is the breaking strain quite high ie, 40-60 lb or what ????, this will I've found have a bearing on the action of the release.........JOLI |

I have exactly the same issue, especially in the rough seas (in which i use them the most.... not sure of a fix yet, but i'm gonna try making the pully length longer and the snood shorter...... |

i make the pully lenth longer and use minimum 30lb for snood never had any probs, fishing of rocks into very snaggy ground i use same breaking strain for snood as rig boddy, ie 60lb rig boddy=60lb snood. cheers ian. |

ian long time not heard from you, hope you are well fella, yeah my pulley side are longer than snood side by about 2inches,gives a good clip down under tension, think i may have found a solution though, good old tubing along the snood and swivel about 2 inches in length ,in theory it should keep the first bit of the snood from tangling with the shock link, will invest in some shrink tube and give it a go.

andy, i tried that and didnt have a lot of success, al that happened was that the snood got tangled from further down.. i rekon the diamter and length of the snood are the key |

Hear what you are saying and you all have valid points and the big thing is it is being debated and thats the way to solve the problem, forget dogma and inovate...........experiment with different snoud lenghs in different tides / conditions/ grounds..............just my opinion for what it is worth !! the snoud lengh should be a least 10" minimum or you start to lose 'presentation' and yes move the lb capacity up ie 60-40 or even 60-60, don't know if a swivel is being used with Gemini clip, if so it should improve the situation.
All the best................JOLI |

Okay, believe it or not I've not heard of these Breakaway Imps before !!!, just checked them out on web-site, will probally take a closer at them ...................................I thought you were talking about impact shields which are a totally different thing entirely !!!.
Oh well live and learn !!!! and yes i agree it is a bit puzzling this fishing lark.
Take it easy all the best.................JOLI

Can I please digress slightly?
From the talk about about pulley rigs and snood length/strength.
For discussion sake lets say,
Shockleader of 60lb
Pulley length of 60lb
Snood of say 30lb
Weight 4/5oz
Does that not mean that I would be casting with the weight relying on the 30lb? Am I thinking about this too much?

No mate all the strain /cast is still on your 60lb shockleader so it would be alright.
Cheers JOLI
