Hi All.
Is there a size limit for Flatties. I will assume they are OK to eat.
As above post, What tactics would you use, Please. |

Hi, the following is only based only on my own experience so it colud be complete bull but i thought id share my knowledge (or what little of it i have to share!!), ive always found that flatties love to play with their food so putting beads or spoons near your hook is always good, and they dont always take the hook on their first bite so be sure its on the line before you strike or real in, ie let the rod wobble a bit first. smaller hooks are good and as for bait ive always found peeler or mackrel work well but they will pretty much eat anything. There is a minimum size but im not sure what it is of the top of my head and im pretty sure you can eat most types of flatties and they are pretty nice fish too, hope this is of some help |

Hi size limits for flatties are.

Flounder, 27cm 10 inch.
Plaice, 28cm 11 inch
Other fish sizes can be found on the left of the page, under NFSA size limits. Cheers...Mick |

Dabs are one of the tenderest and sweetest eating fish I have ever tasted.
Flounders taste like mud.
Plaice are beautiful

Hi all, was fishing at Humberstone about a week ago with a friend and we had 5 flaties and the guy about 50 mtrs away who had been there a little longer had about 12 or so. I am going to go there again this weekend if the weather is not to bad. The fish were taken on size 2 hooks with lug topped of with squid strips. Only just started fishing again after about a 15 year break so it was a nice outing for the first trip.

dont forget the soles,9inch (min),use a small boom rig with upto 12inch snoods, size 2,4 or even 6 hooks, use worm only baits salt lug is good, summer is good to use bits of small rag, great to catch on light tackle.
dabs (lovely fish) can be had on upto 3/0 hooks in my experience, also they dont shoal prefering to stay in very small groups of about 3 fish
bendy rods 2010
