As winter draws in i start to loose interest a little , partly due to inclement weather but mostly because there's much less variety speciewise to hunt for...
........with just flounder ,pout, whiteing, rockling , small bass, & cod to go for really, i can't get exited about any of them praps bar the cod.

s**t- breakfast on fire, men just can't multitask big grin

i ain't fished for a month due to the shyte weather/ brokendown cars & a hospital appointment.
so when a mate
'bassmanrob' contacted me wi a plan for the milford shingle bank (hurst) it just had to be done coz i'd been thinking the same thing.
the neap high tide was for 17.30 but i just couldn't get there till 19.00 well into the ebb which didn't bother me that much because this venue has strong lateral tides where water funnels in/out of the solent.
so much so that the flood tide is imposible to fish with baits any sense, from high tide down is prob the best way to fish it and on neaps because on spring tides the ebb is difficult to handle especially if there is any weed in the water ( there always is).

i got there and parked up about 19.00,
there were alot of cars there looks like everyone else had the same idea.
phoned rob, who was on the beach, he reported- lots of anglers there, he'd been catching doggies n pout,
and the guy next to him had caught a cod of about 8lb
so things looked hopeful, but i knew i'd missed the best chance over high tide .
the better fish here tend to be passing through with the tide, best times are as high water tops & the start of the ebb plus a golden 1/2 hour just as the flood starts but afterwards the tide rips through and you can't keep the baits anchored out there where it matters, thats when its home time or walk up to the castle and fish the eastern side for the flood.

eager to get away i decided to forsake my thermal suit ,it felt quite warm by the car) i couldn't be arsed to carry it, and wearing it for the yomp along the bank just leaves ya hot n sweaty .
so i shouldered my tackle box, rods, rest & bivvy and set off up the shingle, stopping for a chat with rob on the way by before heading off to find a free bit of beach just on the corner.
for bait i had 40 froze lug and a box of squid and set about fishing some big cod baits on pulley rigs plus some scratching tactics with a wishbone rig weed was minimal and the tide nice and steady.
by the time i'd cast the rods it was feeling cold.
i'd seen no bites and the baits were untouched, & it felt colder.
it got colder , my feet went numb & i started jogging around the bivvy like an idiot to try and keep warm,-(didn't work)
will be takeing the thermal suit next time.
still no sign of fish when rob called 2 say he'd caught a jumbo pout but nothing else, we were both hopeing the turn of the tide might produce.
by this time most of the other anglers were packing up & leaveing but i was keen to stay till the flood became too much which inevitably it did, bringing with it a little weed and no fish.
i'd walked back past rob who was still fishing to hear that he'd had nothing else either yet & i was back at the car by midnight

sometimes there's nothing doing, but youve got to try when conditions seem right. .

You called it exactly right when you said everything will come through in one hour Geejay!

Shame the dogs found my baits before the cod did and you were late for the party! Was a nice fish the bloke to my right had.
