Welcome mate and don't worry too much about blanking. The best of us still do it and I still recall blank after blank in my early days until I began to learn a few things - notably where the fish are likely to be which makes up for all the wonderful gear you may be conned into buying. |

We need to tell you newbie that Berkeley Gulp Bait is a con. Lots have folk have tried it and 90% of the time it will catch nothing. Get some frozen mackerel and cut into strips suitable for putting on the hook or get some proper worms and watch the fish come running. |

Hi ND, welcome to the site. good luck with Immingham. I fished paull carpark today with Dickyp, and blanked, he caught a solitary rockling. Im not impressed with Paull at the moment, but the docks seem to do better. let us know how it goes, and as has been said, get some real bait, Squid n macky are cheap and easy to get if you cant get worms. Cheers...Mick |

Cheers for the info on the gulp MM & E. Only bought it thinking on the lines of i wont need to go shopping before the next fishing trip cos what i dont use will be good for next time! (bad logic i see).
Guess i can't trust what the geezer says in the shop, best find a new shop i think ( or not ask for info and keep bugg'n you guys instead lol)
Does the frozen bait have to be defrosted first or do i just cut and use it as is? (working on the assumption fish don't have microwaves).
Will try the wall again on sunday with REAL stuff this time. The wall is the only place i know in immingham. Hey Mr Muppet, how do get to 'Paull' or the mark at the docks so at least i have more options next time.
Looked at the wall the other weekend just to see whats what and there were peep's lobbi'n bits of spikey metal things on the end of skinney long things in so guess it aint to bad .
Many thanks for the advice.
The dude. |

Frozen bait will normally thaw out enogh for you to use by the time you get to your venue, and will thaw out even more when it hits the salt water.

Me again, yes I'm afraid you have discovered that not all tackle shops know what real fishing is about. I have heard some first class B.S. in some tackle shops and seen some dreadful gear and very high prices in some shops. Fortunately at least one of my local shops is very good - mainly because the owners go fishing regularly themselves. When I use frozen bait I find that if I get it out about 1/2 hour before leaving for the beach (10 minutes away) it has thawed out sufficiently for use by the time I have got set up. If I buy a box of squid, it's a slightly different approach because when you open the box, you usually find a solid lump. I therefore leave it open for an hour or so until it has partially thawed then separate out the squids and put them in small separate packets.
NB there are some dabs around at the moment in our area (not big but very tasty) and I would have thought there should be some in your area too. Tactics are size 2 or 4 Aberdeen hooks loaded with lug or small strips of mackerel - cast out around 60 yds on a sandy beach with a rising tide at night. |

Hi ND, you need to nip over the Humber bridge, head straight down the A63 and all the docks are signposted as you come to each roundabout, try victoria dock. or the last one before the chemical works on the right, theres a carpark on the right as you get to the end of the road leading into the docks. Paull carpark is the next roundabout down, just follow Paull signs, as you get to outskirts of paull turn left, follow the road and theres a quaint white house in front of you, take the little private road to the left of it, you cant miss it. Cheers..Mick |
