Plenty of fish in the sea or is there

Hi ya all

Is it just me or are most people blanking at the moment.

I have only been fishing for about 8 mnths now, and im just wondering if im doing somthing wrong or is it just the time of year.

I use lug that i have dug in west mersea myself, ragworm,squid and mackerel and cocktails of the above on all different rigs but still no luck.

I normally fish clacton but no one there is getting anything either, perhaps its just the place i go.

Any help will be greatly received and used

HI RAYMAN,

MIXED FEELINGS ON THIS ONE.
alot depends on where u fish,tides are u fishing at night, sz of hooks etc.
this time of year ill only fish sz 2 hooks on one rod and scratch a bit and 1 blasted out with 2/0 pennel.
there are alot of people blanking but dont worry too much about it.
pick your times good spring tides at night, put time in, ask alot of questions about the are u want to fish(sorry i waffle but as youve only been at it 8 big grin

months there are lots of things i could help with)

sites like this one are always on hand to help and will be more than happy too.

Cheers for your reply, looking at going to west mersea but its very muddy up that area, its an estuary. Will this make a difference
Someone told me that its a good idea to fish where i dig for lug because area has been disturbed and the bait is near the top.

So its best to go at night at the moment, will have to plan for that then

One last question if you dont mind. What is the best rig to use for a muddy flat area.

You mentioned tides as well, how do you know when there is a spring tide.

Iknow that was 2 questions but if you dont ask.........

HI,
BEST TO FISH FOR FLATTIES AND BASS IN MUDDY ESTURY, (MAYBE SOME MULLET BUT BLOODY HARD TO CATCH ON SEA GEAR.
best use a long flowing hook lengh with a atractor bead or so and a size 2 or 4 hook,
you cabn use a flounder spoon ,
keep it light gear depending on tides etc use rag worm and move the bait every so often by turning handle a couple of times .
do u have to fish esturies or can u get to beach ?

hi rayman i live in clacton but usually fish further afield.hopefully the trusty whiting will be here in numbers soon so that will sort out the blanking problem happy

i find the holland beaches better near york rd or holland haven or take a trip to frinton which is usually good,failing that if you want a confidence boosting trip then walton pier is your best bet hope this helps mate big grin

are Holland beaches north of the pier where all the beach huts are but before the boat club.

I think im going to have to plan a night trip to frinton soon because if im right you cant fish walton pier at night unless you have a full membership.
I might have to try walton pier somtime next week during the day.

crabs are now coming to a end in my area so traditionally lug/squid and mackeral takes over.
shingle st is east of woodbridge ,fished this mark before on daylight and hit 14 codling in a private match all up to 3.5 lb!
knackered going the walk back !!. steep as hell.
crad/rag would be best in muddy esturies but lug may do.

try to use "watch wieghts" in muddy areas,as these dont sink deep into the mud so much,unlike other wieghts which can suck deep into the mud making it nigh on impossible to get out again.but the fish are out there and starting to appear in numbers,yes it has been quite a difficult summer,compared to last year,i was pulling double headers of pouting and dabs on a near daily basis,hang in there and just try to get as much experience as you can ,it will get better mate big grin
