So i decided to get up early and attack my chores with zest.
Go to bank(pay in) which is nice.
Collect sundries for chair upholstery.
Got to workshop.
Switch on air compressor.BANG.It blew up.
Go fishing.
I went to a favourable mark to cast in the howling wind with the feroucious tide rushing in.After a few casts my fly was hit 3 times by a sizeable fish but it neglected to seize the hook.Cast after cast proved fruitless.Even the Mullet were not present.
Mark 2.
I sat on the shore and watched the bay infront of me and saw the odd fish leap out of the water so i felt confident of a hook up.How wrong i was.
Not even a knock.
My day was capped off by a phenomanal sight.
Out in the bay about 150 yards away a large bird smashed into the sea and carried away a rather healthy sized fish.
An Osprey frequenting to shores of Hayling.
Gob smacked i went home to ham,egg and chips with a smattering of tomato and chilli chutney.
Im still sitting here thinking Osprey no way.
Cheers
Simon |

I too was curious about BF's Osprey sighting and so did a little research.
Apparently there are Osprey colonies in Scotland and Rutland, and these birds are satellite tagged so that their migrations can be tracked and charted, Over the years several of the charts show individual birds passing close by or even stopping in this part of the south!
So it seems BF may well have witnessed the rather unique sight of an Osprey stopping off for a snack whilst on it's migration to West Africa! Lucky beggar |

Yup thats the bugger, bumped into a 'twitcher' on the shore and apparently you can see them from the shore along the old billy track sitting out on the posts in the harbour.

Ooh, you doubters!. They have, apparently, been known to nab a fish or two from Duncton Mill fishery, near Petworth on their migration trail (rather them than me! ).
P.S. If anyone is interested in an Orvis T3 908-4..... |
