decided to have a go at out newton and use the rest of the bait from last weekends fishing which was a blanking trip but sea was alot calmer this time so set up at low water and fished it up to high, second cast of the day and i landed my first ever tope which weighed 2 1/2 lb after that we didn't have a nibble till about 1 hour before high water when the other person i was with landed a 3 1/2 lb ray then i managed to catch a small pouting then we headed off home.
bait used left over rag, bluey and squid for tipping.
rigs used running bottom rigs with single hook.
a person fishing further up the beach had 4 smoothies.
here is my pic of that tope
