Is the barge pier near the ramp at shoebury? If so do you access from the beach or the carpark nr the new housing estate? |

Nope - it's the short pier that runs from the bottom of Gunners Park, to the east of the Shoebury ramp.
A few mak were caught last weekend, some decent size. Needs a good size tide though for best results. Should be bass around. Saw a few mullet cruising and shoals of garfish at the surface on Sat.
Cheers,
Richard |

Thanks Richard, Have you an idea of how you get to it? Is it from the nature reserve car park or from the ramp, walking along the beach? I may give it a try weekend. Cheers |

I cycle there from home! You can park in Ness Road (the free parking bit)though and walk along the new cycle/foot path into the Garrison development and then take a right turn onto another cycle path that leads to the sea wall where the pier is located. You can also walk from the ramp end if you've parked your car there. There's also a car park in Gunners Park on an old MoD hardstanding.
Hope this helps and good luck :-) |

hi all, sorry for the delay on the report, i did get out last sat nite,it was a 11.40ish high tide,i fished from our beach hut on the west beach, about half a mile from barge pier, not the best spot, but handy, nothing for 2 hours up to high tide, then just after high tide i had 5 fish, 3 school bass, small but better than nothing, and 2 bass of about 2lb each, a good nite considering the amount of times i haved blanked this year, good luck, paolo |

Fished Barge Pier on Sat afternoon and got a dozen decent mackerel in about an hour and a half. Great sport on light tackle.
Forget feathers - best tactics for mack it this venue (same as Southend Pier) are three hooks up the line using very thin mackerel strip on size 4/6 hooks on 12" hook lengths. Top hook nees to be just below the surface. Cast about 3ft out. Fish on the stem length (inside the oyster beds) around high tide. Needs tide greater than about 5.2m.
Cheers,
Richard |
