Mick, I've just had a brain wave. Rob a bank and get the Hardy Zane Ti reel, a snip at 5k. Easily the most beautiful reel I have ever seen. If bassfly gets one I will be truly jealous. |

Good choice there Michael, you will sit there in the evening talking to it.
I decided for a Vosseler S1 in the end.
Cheers

I helped in the design of the Orvis LA. Its a good reel however many of them have the drag set wrong from the factory so needs loosening off from the inside. Try to get a secondhand one as they are aircraft grade aluminium whereas the newest ones are produced in china for less than 10% of the cost of the ones that were produced in the UK. 200 people laid off to increase shareholder profits when the profits were previously good (I left many years before). Also check that they are anodised properly and not coloured in in places with permanent marker to hide the bits the anodising missed. |

Mick, it must be so confusing for you with all this talk of Battenkill L/A 's being made in the far east and not up to the same standards as before..
All i can say is that i bought the Mid Arbour Battenkill a couple of weeks ago and there is nothing wrong with the quality of this model, suoerb machining and definately no drag problems or spray paint. It performs superbly, smooth, efficient and looks good in titanium too!
In my Humble opinion i think the Large Arbour Battenkills are too big for the fishing we do over here, they are designated 'Big Game ' reels in the orvis catalogue after all. The Mid Arbour is much more suited to the type of fishing over here, again in my humble opinion, and i would thoroughly recommend you consider them. Plus they are a lot easier on the pocket than the L/A's. |
