Bass can be caught on feathers, but its not worth targetting them with this method as its not really productive. If your on a surf beach try fishing when its fairly rough, just lob a pulley rig behind the breakers baited with peeler crab and ragworm. The best times are dawn and dusk.
From rocks you can fish using spinners or plugs on light tackle, but always put your safety first and make sure you stay clear of the water as a wave can easily take you off a rock and then smash you into it. |

Oh blimey ive been almost hit by a rogue wave.but yes dont cast far,you can just pop ya gear in the wet stuff.i use a 2/0 with a squid strip tie to look like a small fish.i will soon post a pic to show how this looks,i have found this method to be quite deadly on occasions.good luck. Andy1i |

Float fishing a small(Or large) live bait can be very productive in the evenings around harbour walls and break waters. Also plugging and spinning work very well. |

I catch nearly all my take home size bass in the evening or at night using lugworm or mackerel strip. BTW hope you know the minimum landing size for bass, some of the sea fisheries officers are really laying the law down these days. I use simple two hook clipped down rigs with size 1 or 1/0 hooks, the picture on this website of a clipped down rig doesn't show it very well but the clips are often those little black plastic ones which are held on the main line by thick bits of rubber. |

and so they should. if you ask me then the penalties arent strong enough. too many people taking home undersized fish and pleading ignorance to the rules. right, rant over and not aimed at you eccles.
for my Bass fishing i use a plain oul simple 2 hook flapper, both hooks above the grip lead with good quality size 2 hooks, 60lb shock leader for the main line and 25lb amnesia snoods. the main rig line is about 1 metre long so my snoods arent too big. i always use razor but thats just down to the particular beach i fish. if its a good surf beach then a 30-50 yard cast does me, depending on if the tide is comming in or going out. |

I tend to go for either a 2 hook flapper or paternoster, single hook paternoster or more recently a single hook pulley rig. If there a good surf & i feel lazy i'll grip it down and pop the rod in a rest, if its swell surf ie swell that hits the beach without the wind, i use a a plain or bomb lead and allow the bait to roll around whilst i hold the rod.
Baits: depends where I am, but generally Rag will feature high up, sandeels in the day, crab, mackeral if im on a harbour wall or near docks etc, razor fish for some beaches, and very occasionally i'll throw a whole squid out into some faster flowing water.
Hook: depends on the bait, but generally 1/0 at the minimum, bass have large mouths, even a small one will swallow that size. If using bigger baits, bigger hooks, upto 4/0 - especially if using big fish baits in autumn when there are bigger fish out there.
If in a stand, 13 foot beach caster, if holding, 10 foot bass rod, amnesia hooklegnths, bait clips essential & I dont use a shockleader on the beach ever, and no weights past 4 oz. |
