got a last minute reprieve and thought i would give the oj a bash.....got down to fish at about 7.45 and set up on the dog leg, mid way along facing kent. put two rods out (3 hook flapper on one and pennel on the other). wind was not pleasant, but bearable.........otherwise weather was quite kind. had one solitary pouting about an hour into the trip, so i moved across to the inside of the dog leg. not a sausage......really quiet all night. somewhat dissapointed i moved up to the top layby(nearest the steps) around half hour before high water. there is a nice little gulley there that seems to always without fail have something to relieve the boredom!!! sure enough the schoolies were in there and waiting lol. picked up two but lost three ....................again better than the proverbial poke in the eye with a sharp stick!!!
bait used was lug, squid and a cocktail of both.
i am starting to think that i should have stuck with scars elbow!!! the last two trips there saw me going home with a sizeable fish. whereas chasing the "reports" around fambridge and the oj have landed me zip.............last night with a 5.4m tide would have seen me settled on the lower wall (albeit with casting restraints) right through till high water. also without having to use "shank's pony" for 30 minutes each way lol.
next question is where am i going to try next (unsuccessfully!!! ) |

Hi Col
Walton is doing very well. I was there on Friday night for 3 hours and couldn't beleive it when I landed 2 very nice codling - just the right size for the oven tray. one of them gave me a good fight. Skates, Garfish are about + if you lucky you can land a good size Bass |

OJ is very slow at the moment - blanked on my last 3 trips! What were the sizeable fish from Scars Elbow and what did they come out on? Pouting on squid I reckon..... |

lol fiend.............3lb codling 4weeks ago and a bass just over a 1.5lb.
also saw some strange things in the sky on saturday........... night about a dozen "orbs" which lifted up behind benfleet station, climbed some 300yds high and drifted right over the jetty. NOT ufo's but more like large embers around a 2ft round ish? apparently other sightings of the same thing are on twitter!!! also a 1.30am call to the emergencies services due to a rather large fire in a field .............never a dull moment. probably one of the orbs caught a rubbish pile on fire |

Hi "kopite" what you saw is "par for the course"when you are night fishing because you have an uninterupted view i.e. no street light pollution, i totally believe that some of the things that occur and what you see sometimes can't be explained, over the years in some of the remote places that i've visited (fishing of course!!!) some real strange and spooky stuff has happened, i could tell loads of tales but most people would think that it's a load of old "Jackanory, i will say one thing, the place where it is really active is the Shingle st area.......Regards Joli |
