Set off at 8am this morning and picked up “beatlesfab4” (aka Tony) for a session North of Spurn.

We did not get to fish where I had planned as two lads from Doncaster where already there so we settled on a spot at the foot of the get down.

Armed with Sandeel, Squid, Fresh Lug and Frozen peeler (some of which was 2yrs old) we had our rods out by 9am, giving us approx 3hrs of the flood to fish.

The wind was blowing from the NE so there was a nice bit of chop on so here was hoping for a good Bass session.

I landed the first fish; it was a small Bass caught using a Pennell Pulley rig at approx 80 yards baited with fresh Lug. This proved to be my only fish in our 7hr session.

I tried a couple of different bait combinations but nothing; I managed two further bites all session but without any success but at least the tan got topped up.

Tony on the other hand he a great day, catching two species that he has never caught from the shore before.

Fishing with his new AFAW rods that he purchased off Jellyworm he cast out using an “Up and Over” rig baited with Crab.

Within 45 minutes he landed his first ever beach Smoothhound, weighing in at 5lb 7oz.

About 45 minutes later Tony landed his first ever beach Thornback Ray, weighing in at 6lb 12oz.

Just before high water about 1.5hrs after his last fish he landed another Smoothhound, this one weighing in at 4lb 7oz.

Once the tide turned the Crabs came out in force and were stripping baits within 10 minutes but Tony still managed to bag a Slug and a small Flounder on the up using a Pennell Pulley Rig.

Well done on the fish Tony, lets hope that I can keep up with you next time.

Total of 6 Anglers on the beach, the lads from Doncaster had a small Bass and one of the guys to the south of us had 5 small Bass.

Thanks for reading, tight lines ><(((((((*>

Quite right Richard, but sometimes the answers that come back seem like a slap for being a naughty boy. I was wondering if you would notice it, cos i certainly did.

By asking the question it avoids others doing wrong.

You were quite right to ask the question.

Shame some of the answers can be so blunt but feelings tend to run high when it comes to consevation matters.

All smoothhounds and tope should be reurned unharmed but unless you are informed then you are not to know otherwise

Please dont be put off asking questions by some of the response as its the only way to learn and after all this is the reason we all joined the site.

To learn and to pass on knowledge to others.

Cheers

My answer was not meant in the agressive tone that it may have been read as big grin

We all need to learn, I made the mistake once of taking a slightly undersized Bass home for the BBQ- tell you what I have never done it since but if nobody had informed me about the legal sizes I would have never known.
