Met "bazza byrom" (aka Gareth) and his lad armed with Frozen Peeler Crab and Lug at our location South of Withernsea just before 6am this morning ready for our days fishing.
We chose a spot on the beach that was close to where I have fished before and got the rods set up and out before 06:30, giving us approx 2.5hrs of the flood to fish before High Water.
I fished both rods with Pennell Pulley rigs to start with baited with fresh lug at approx 100 yards and on the first cast I was into my first Bass of the day; it wasn’t massive but legal and a keeper for the BBQ.
My second Bass came soon after, this time it was caught at approx 60 yards, only a small school Bass so was returned safely after the ceremonial picture lol
My third fish was a good fish, gave some great bites and put up a nice fight on the way in only for it to get close enough for me to see it pop it’s head out of the breaking wave and come free of my hook, gutted I was.
I decided to switch one of my rods to Peeler Crab and fished the rod at approx 100 yards, this proved to be a great move with me landing my personal best Cod of 5lb almost immediately.
All this before High Water too, and I thought this mark fished better on the Ebb?
That was it for me until an hour after High Water when I had a great bite on one of my rods; both rods were now being fished back at approx 100 yards baited with Peeler Crab, I was into my first Smoothhound of the day.
This lovely fish gave a great fight but as I was reeling it in I noticed that my other rod had just been slack lined, so whilst I was dealing with the Hound that I had on Gareth took charge of my other rod and landed my second Hound of the day, a nice little Starry.
So all this in under 4hrs, what a day I thought I had in front of me but to my amazement it died off for the next 4.5hrs when just before Low Water I landed my third Bass of the day weighing approx 1.7lbs before the crabs started attacking my Lug.
Unfortunately when I left both Gareth and his lad where still BLANKING, did you manage to catch anything guys apart for the carrier bags that we all had lol
Great company, great weather and a great days fishing only wish I could have stayed and fished the tide back up again.
Thanks for reading, tight lines ><)))))))*> |
