Hi, fished from the south pier from about 08.00am till around 14.30 I hooked another flippin weaver in less than a minute of hitting the water. Conner followed that with a nice little whiting prob just over 1/2lb after that it was weaver fish galore, if they made good bait we would be laughing, again the tally for them was around 46 it got very slow on the Ebb, but just as i decided to pack up my rod jumped for joy, it was quite a struggle to bring it in and up the wall, it was obvious why when an Eel over 2ft long popped over. that was about it, baits were Bluey, Black, and yellotail lug. the yellowtail caught the Eel. the weather was grand, and it was a good but tiring day.
Now the bad news, the powers that be which could be the council, or the businesses using the south pier are trying to have it closed to anglers. the reason i was given was that the night anglers leave a real mess behind them, and of course it costs to clean it up, (shame because there are bins on the wall at intervals) The good news is, they are considering opening the north pier to anglers all year round, but the bad news is, it will be Permit only, which means the casual angler visiting has no chance, because its going to really cost to get one. this is a sign, other councils etc will follow if things dont improve. Cheers..Mick |

Good to hear you had good day at brid, apart from the weaver fish. ive only ever seen one caught and that was last time i was there .
As for the story about the south wall, i heard rumour that nite from a chap that lives in brid. that its the trawlermen and so on that have been complaining about the number of anglers on wall, and that they are interfering with there jobs and so on, and thats why that want it banned,,, The times ive been on that wall and fished, can say ive never seen any probs with rubbish, and ive always used the rubbish bins to put my leftovers in, ie old bait paper, old line and so on.
I do have relatives that live there and will contact them to see if they have heard anything,, and if i do , will put posting up to inform you all. |

well done on the fish mick the harbour commission have wanted the south peir closed to anglers for years because of the rubbish that is left behind, i used to have a guest house in brid and i fished the harbour a lot and it is truly discusting the amount of rubbish that is left by all visitors not just the anglers

Hi, your right Squidhead, i was so wiped out last night i wasnt sure i got the tale right, and didnt want to blame the wrong people, it was the businesses etc that want it closed, A local next to us said he collected a load of rubbish when he came down around 07.00am but surprisingly, this was logged by the trawlermen in their log book, probably ammunition for having it closed down. so it seems they are keeping records of anything which might help their cause. If they should succeed in closing it, this could happen in other places when word gets out, Cheers...Mick |
