That`s constructive criticism ?
Why you actually think its not working maybe more constructive
Its definitely worked in that fact that is has kept many away that were just here to sale fishing tackle etc. as a free resource and overloading the forum with it
As for the auction software it worked very well the few times it got used and with 90 members registered for it, I imagine there were many interested in buying.
Personally I have no idea why it didn't get used, it may be down to the Paypal only option.
Cheers

Next we come to the problem of a new member wishing to purchase gear that he sees advertised. Is he to be penalised just because he is a new member? and not allowed to purchase the same?
Minefield isn't it?

I think the reason the auction part of the site isn't being used is because of a certain flea bay site where there are tens of thousands more users looking to buy or sell than there ever will be on here
Just an observation

The buy and sell forum we used to have was good but it was replaced as certain members abused it by only selling gear on it and not bothering to post in any other forum it this hadnt been taking place then i dont think it would have been replaced but i could be wrong lol

No Dave your perfectly right in what you say. A certain member had over 200 posts advertising gear for sale or swop and not one post in any other forum. He wasn't on his own either.
This same member was using it as his own personal tackle shop and Im afraid it was myself who pointed it out to Mrix.
If the said forum was to come back I for one would check it every deay and keep a log just to make sure it wasn't abused again.
Cheers

Basically you would have had to been a member of this site for 3 months before you can use the auction.

Hi there, the auction is not actually a forum but independent from the site, the 3 month clause is basically to help members feel more secure buying of members that have been here for some time... without the rule you would just get a fair few registered members only here to use the auction and not contribute to the forum.
Also it helps stop people just registering to try some form of scam etc.
The rules are only to benefit the members.
We have actually got 98 members registered within the auction site that have not sold so I can only imagine they registered to buy...so anyone selling should do ok
Please remember, if you don`t get a sale you dont pay a single penny and you have the option for a reserved price
If you do decide to register with the auction site, please remember its important to use the same username you use here along with the same email you use here, the password can be different if you wish to change it.
Cheers

hi mrix i should have also said that on thinking about the 3 month thing that i think it,s a good idea as you say it could give others a bit of a peace of mind kind of thing when buying .as to paypal if it,s not excepted by any seller from any online site then i just dont buy .
as to a selling ,buying or swoping within the site how about a sticky in each forum but only allowing 2 items at any one time to be listed by a member and say only 6 items a month max . that way members would be able to pm each other to make the arangements for the transaction i would think that most transactions would be carried out within members own forumson a face to face basices just a thought

Hello Steve the site is a completely free resource but at the same time very expensive to run.
The auction site was an attempt to fund the forum but unfortunately members don`t appear interested in using it... its only at a cost of 6% per sale and thats only if you have success and make an actual sale if a sale is not made then its totally free to use
Basically if members do wish to buy and sale and use the auction its helps towards the expensive running costs, apart from that the whole of sea-fishing.org, is and has been a totally free resource for a fair few years now
The old system as mentioned in this topic did get spammed and took a fair bit of time for myself and the admins to keep an eye on members just registering for a free resource
Cheers
