Hiya chaps,

Is the Albright Knot the most reliable for tying shock leader to main line? I am a complete novice (only been twice) and I have tied 70lb shock leader to 15lb main line (as advised by shop) with this knot. I have (as far as I know) done it as per instructions on a variety of web sites (they do differ depending on where you look) but up to now I have lost four bottom rigs and weights to the sea. Might just be a crap knot tier - not, (oops) knot beyond the realms of possibility. Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Rob. crying

I'm a big believer in the uniknot. It ties well even with big differences in line being tied together. You can always put a littlle plibond or zap-a-gap on the knot for smothness/insuerance.

i use the albright knot and find it more than capable. i was using 15lb mainline to 50lb shock up until a few weeks ago when i started using 60lb shock for 6oz leads. try the link below, it ties it fast on normal speed but you can slow it down or watch it frame by frame. i use a millionaire 6h with level wind and the knot flies thru it no probs. make sure you lube the know with a bit of spit when tightening it. if your not doing this it might be why its breaking.

best of luck.

Albright every time, small neat and strong knot for tying unequal diameter lines together. It takes a little practice at first but well worth persevering with.

Somethings got to give way and even if you tie the best albright or uni knot ever tied, it is where the break should happen if you forget to set your drag or pull for a break in a snag.
If you ever tie a knot that gives 100% of line strength it will break anywhere along the length of line out , probably at the rod tip or the reel and cost you
a lot of line.

Ps Tie a few practice knots in short lengths of leader/line and test them to destruction with a 2 gallon bucket of water (a pint of water weighs a pound and a quarter ) if you don`t have a spring balance. You will soon find out how good your knots are.

Line is too short or bucket is too far away, move it closer and you may need to use a bigger bucket ( paddling pool ?) till your casting improves happy

Being near Rab on kareoke night may damage your health big grin
