fished tilbury fort at the worlds end for the first time today. fished 3 up two rods both with two hook flappers, baited with lug, rag, squid tips, without squid tips, squid on its own. net result between two of us, my brother had an 8oz flounder that never registered a single movement of the tip, and i had a 3oz bass close in. masses of debris and weed in the river making it impossible to hold bottom more than 30yds out. i tried paying out line and uptiding to no avail. comfy place to fish and park, however that is the first and last time for us at this venue, the amount of rubbish left was staggering, i make no apologies for my language frankly the place is a S%$£ hole. how anyone can enjoy fishing in the two cess pools i have fished the last two days is beyond me. i for one cannot wait to relocate my family to north devon, where it is not perfect, but is nowhere as bad as what i am witnessing at the moment sad sad sad

Tilbury can produce good fishing, but think all over generally quiet and looking as if the river moving a lot of weed and debris today.

The state of the mark is down to a lot of people who generally live there lives with that sort of attitude.

I for one was always brought up to clean the mess up I had made and take any rubbish home with me.

i too am forever pickiing up other peoples rubbish.

its the sort of people that fishing involves 2 packs of worms and 2 crates of beer an aromatic(Herbal) fag who I see on my travels droppping litter and generally abusing the shore line and fishing marks

Everyone to their own but please please please clear your mess up...

I always will be a firm believer of do things in their correct places.

Beer should be drank in pubs etc and not next to the sea where it is not only a pain clearing the mess up but more important a safety issue.

it could be an age thing and the way i and many others were brought up.

Certain factions today believe they don't have to do anything and have been raised that way.

I believe the members on this forum are of similar beliefs and attitudes to myself and all our moaning will not get to the perpetrators of the rubbish situation.

All we as a fishing community can do is try and clear marks up as we go by taking that extra bag of rubbish and disposing of it in the correct manner.

Sorry for Ranting.

At least you didn't blank today bucks.

give morrisons pier a try at erith or dartford bridge, although they are further upriver than tilbury an gravesend i have seen some good results over the years... in summer erith has produced eel flounder bass sole an even a tub gurnard and winter it has produced flounder dab whiting pouting rockling an codling.. 1 year a few thornbacks were caught this far up on a spring tide, not a big size but excellant for this part of the river itself. its clean an friendly an a good day can be had. 90% of anglers fish worm, if a few more fished squid, mackeral, crab, sandeel who knows what it may throw up, the fish are probably there but no1 is actually targeting them... winking

caberat, i know what you are saying but i dont believe that it is fair to label everyone from tilbury at fault for the filth. most mark we fish nowadays are suffering the same abuse, so it cannot only be locals. ive seen grown men screw up a used wrap and toss it striaght into the sea without a seconds thought. i dont drink whilst fishing other than my caffine fix, but to generalise all beer drinkers as litter louts is wrong. i am late 40's and if it is not my turn to drive i often partake of a little herb, its all a matter of perspective one mans poison and all that. but you are spot on that the majority are always clearing up after the minority who would be the first to moan when marks are lost to us. phew, sorry i went right off on one then. i can take a slow day, but not a dirty day, nice one jay i will give morrisons pier a bash, any chance of some directions mate........tight lines all

Tilbury is my local spot, only 5 mins away. But, i have stopped going there as frequently as i used to.

1. The rubbish left behind. (I always take a few spare carrier bags to put rubbish in and take home.)
2. Too many people in too small an area want to fish there now.
3. Just hasn't been producing the same as last year.

I have personnally tried worm, squid, mackerel and the odd crab, but all i seem to be getting is small whiting on worm.

But i did witness a 6lb bass being pulled out a few months back.

I always take a couple of carrier bags with me for my rubbish and I pick up rubbish left behind by others (usually within ten meters either side of my rod set up) where & when ever I go. angry angry

The usual culprits are newpaper wraps, squid trays and fishing line.........

Although its great to read members thoughts and very valued opinions through out all the forums on SF.org. How about instead on continually preaching to the already converted, lets start to pick up other peoples rubbish around our fishing spots as well.

In addition we put positive posts on here when we go fishing about what rubbish we picked up and not what we witnessed left by others and...... perhaps others will read and start to take note!!!!!

Lead by example as it were........ winking

Good idea Macer, while i was at dungie yesterday a nice elderly chap was walking along chatting to the anglers asking how they were doing and what was coming out as i quite often do down at gravesend and from reading posts on our forum quite a few of us do,the difference being as this man was doing this he was happily picking up bits of rubbish, line etc with one of those pick up stick things the council cleaners use and putting it in a bin bag with very little effort,so i think i might invest in 1 of those for the next time i pop down the river just to see whats coming out.also i think if people see someone making an effort then there's more chance they'll take their rubbish home with them.let's hope we can turn this 'trend' around.

I always take 6-8 beers with me when i go fishing to share between 2 of us, we dont get p**sed up and trash the place. Always have a carrierabag handy for the rubbish and empties to go in and have a general clear up of my area, which at the end of the session gets strapped to the back of a rucksack and taken home.

And sjunxjon, there is plenty of places to fish along the river. But at the mo, i wouldnt bother. From down along to the shippy lobster stretch, upto dartford bridge, greenhite etc. Have a look around on google earth, pick out some spots then go and have a scout and see what there like. winking

My comment was about people who get drunk and do fishing to relieve the boredom, as opposed to those who fish and have a can as refreshment.
I finished worked today and ppped along to grays Wharf there was only 3 young lads at the far end of the prom still fishing well into the ebb.

I passed and picked up 6 Stella cans and placed them in the bin not 10 yards away from where they had been dropped on the floor. and further up worm papers and some line.

The lads I fishing had blanked and they said that they had not seen any of the 6 or more anglers catching anything today.

Everyone making important points, I like a beer when I go fishing but take the can home, used to smoke and put the ends in empty can and last but not least was drought up to clear up my pitch at end of day and that means all rubbish not just my own.

Finally I would volunteer to be part of a clean up day.

There seems to be support for this so is it worth being a sticky?? Kopitecol what do you think?? worried worried worried
