MG ]
I have been asked to put some photos of my boat on so here goes.
She is a Shetland 570 the 3rd last one made in 1980.She is powered by a Yamaha 85hp which pushes her along at a good 35 knots, she has a aux Yamaha 5 hp which is great for trolling or just cruiseing along to save fuel.
She is a great fast fishing boat, and I would recommend anyone to purchase one of these, a bit of eletronics, and a good engine.
I keep her at Amble marina all the time, I do have a 4 wheel braked trailer which is ideal for taking her out for her annual maintenance checks.
Not shown on the photos are the new VHF and FM arials, she also has a lifefloat instead of the rings, I also splashed out on a colour chart plotter for her.
She fishs 2 very comfortably, 4 is a push but doable. I sometimes berth overnight on her which is very comfortable for 2, but I would not like to house the other 2 guests in the cockpit berths if she was to be used as a 4 berth boat.
When I purchased her 4 years ago, the hard top and the railings had already been fitted.I was going to remove them but I soon got very use to the hard top and its benefits. I could not now imagine having them removed.
So that my boat ladies and gentlemen, she may not be the most beautiful boat in the world to the rest of you,but I would not swop her for anything and I recon the cost of a modern day equivalent , with trailer fully loaded would be in access of £25k. |

Nice photo. Obviously a summer time opportunity. Can I also suggest you add the same to the boat owners register at the top of this forum. Doing that means that the details will remain on the first page of the forum until you want to edit or delete it. What are the launching facilities/charges at Amble? Has the cod fishing been any good there over the last year? I fished Hartlepool last summer and found it to be a shadow of its earlier years. |

The name is a 2 part thing, I live in a small village called Togston,2 miles from Amble, the local working mens club is nicknamed the Togi club.We keep ducks as pets and as well as for their eggs,My lass thought the bow of the boat looked like the beak of a duck, hence the name The Togi Duck.
Launching at Amble slip way is meant to cost £7 payable to the habour master, his office hours appear to be 9-5 Mon to Fri, out of these hours nobody appears to pay hence 99% of launchs appear to be free.
Fishing at the moment appears to be mixed, last sunday was the AMBLE OPEN. The heaviest fish was a 7lb Cod, 420 fished the match. I caught a 1.3lb flattie, biggest bag was caught by a 15 year old lad who won, best junior, biggest flattie and heaviest bag, £750 nice days work.
The photo was taken in the last 2 weeks of July 2006, that is when the weather was like that for 2 weeks, which is exactle when I took 2 weeks holiday, I was out in the boat every day for 2 weeks, the engine was running very sweet by the end of the 2 weeks.
The facilities at Amble marina are very good, the marina is only half a mile from the sea, and having sailed and stayed at all the marina on the north east coast I can assure you the toilet facilities here are the best, which goes a long way if you are bringing the other half along.
The marina prices are very good for boats of 6m or smaller, above 6m and the boats are charged by the meter, that is when you need 6 numbers on a roll over week to stop here for a year.LOL. |

Crossy likes his Bass fishing too. Heres one I captured on my phone. Best Bass 8lbs (mine) part of a catch of 28 Bass. The remainder returned to fight again.

Some more photos of the Togi Duck taken today, didnt go out, just a quick run of the engines and clean, before lunch. The blue sheet normaly folds away when under way.
Got the marina bill this week up again 9%,( thats means I am paying 50% more for the berth than what I did 5 years ago).
have they not heard there is a resession on. I am thinking of putting her into the Royal Quays at Newcastle, mainly for a change of scene as I have been here for 5 years.
Not sure yet, got till end of Feb to make my mind up. |

I know exactly what you mean. Crossy and I both had boats in Fleetwood marina until a couple of years ago. Berth and insurance kept creeping up. In latter years we were talking £120 - £150 per month. Frightning amounts to pay before you even turned an engine on. We have both returned to the roots of our boat angling, opting for Orkney boats on trailers. These were the biggest we could opt for avoiding braked trailer requirements. Unfortunatly as all boat owners are too well aware of, anything related to boating carries a premium price tag. Your marina has clearly made the decision that the recession is going to effect you rather than them! |
