All of those on the boat trip 18th, I have looked across the various threads and minimised them into 1.
this is times and useful info etc I hope this helps..
PLEASE REMEMBER Kopitecol has done this for fun not aggro
it is most probable that we will leave from Lobster Smack
Haven Rd, Canvey Island, Essex SS8 0NR and only fish in the estuary. The cod are in the thames in abundance but Kopite can’t be held liable for a poor day lol
YOU WILL NEED....... sea legs, suitable clothing to protect you from the cold/wet, boat tackle and have to provide your own bait(without exception!!) !!!!
as it stands at the moment the meet will take place at the lobstersmack carpark for 7.15 boarding at 7.30. returning around 4pm ish. both boats have the ability to heat food (one has gas, the other one a microwave) tea and coffee will be supplied by the skippers.
you will need change for the sweep on the biggest fish!!!! £2.50
BOAT 1 (skippered by bob) captained by Some Liverpool supporting bloke think its Everton mints or someone LOL Sorry Captain Kopitecol LOL
BOAT 2 (skippered by johny) captained by Captain Cabrat.
it will be down to cabrat and Kopitecol to keep order on our respective boats and hopefully the skippers will be judges for our sweep on the biggest fish!! this is across the two boats and will be £2.50 per head, (no obligation to join in but if we all do someone will hopefully win £32.50, free trip!!) if you want separate comps on your boat sort it with ya captains.
Kopitecols boat will consist of seven. (Please let me know if you want a sweep on boat 1 or not??)
1 Kopitecol
2 maddmick
3 the shadow
4 danb84
5 southendfisherman
6 Twinkle
7 fugazzi
Cabrats boat will be six (Please let me know if you want a sweep on boat 2 or not??)
1 cabrat
2 macer
3 bluelion
4 essex dave
5 griegwwr
6 garrygov
Captain Kopite is hoping to sort out a trophy for the top rod!! and possibly a booby prize for the best snag, or worst catch
final thought.....the lobstersmack will be open when we get back!!!!
please note due to popular demand and skippers concern we will be imposing a definate ONE ROD PER PERSON RULE!! if this annoys or offends sorry in advance!!!!
Rigs and Baits,Boat Reports
"Approx 3 packs of worms and 2/3lb squid to see ya through the day on the one rod I hope this helps"
This is about average for the time allotted on 2 previous ventures into the estuary but you make the choice this is just a guideline.
Squid, Lug, Cuttlefish, Mackie strips,Blueys & any fresh shell fish.
Weights 6-9oz Fixed gripper Leads "Cheers Col for info"
Standard running ledger rig is sufficient, every time i go out on a boat in the Thames we tend to use the same rigs and it produces many species.
Went out with my uncle on his boat with him and a few of his friends a couple of weekends ago, and we caught an absolute bin load of cod between us all between 2lb and 8.5 lb.
All we used were 4 - 5ft flowing traces with 4/0 single or pennelled hooks and for our bait we had about 10lb of squid between us which we used whole, plus a couple of packets of lug. The lug weren't much better for the cod, but they were for the whiting though !!
Kopite report earlier in month, was much slower than the last trip but was still productive for me(lol). bait was squid, lug and mackeral. mostly whole squid or heads, and some tipped worms with squid. first fish fell to me (ironically i am usually the last!) and was a very small whiting which promptly went straight back out on someone else's rod as a live bait. next up was the best fish of the day which again was me (yawn) a codling at 2lb13oz. vern bagged a good sized dab i had three more codling around 2lb and another whiting.............. more codling fell to the other lads and a few diddly whiting. big6 had three species, a dab a whiting and a codling
no wind at all, it was the calmest of calm.
vernon's stew went down very well in the cold.
there were a variety of hook lengths..........mine both around 18 inches with just a simple sliding trace. no need to over complicate things. but others went for nearer four foot.
Tips
One other tip is to not put your lead weights on until right before you are ready to cast over the side. This is the same as when the boat moves location (you remove your weights and put them somewhere safe). This is because the swinging weights can cause damage to the boat.
The best way to prevent sea sickness. There are a number of travel sickness pills you can purchase however, ive found travel bands are the best (personal preference). These are elastic type wrist bands with a pressure button on them. This fits over the wrist and the pressure button sits on a pressure point on your wrist.
Another tip is when on a boat stick to the middle as there is less up and down motion rather than at he back or front of the boat .
there isnt really any rules for footwear or clothing............only two pieces of advice!!!
warm and waterproof
when i went the other day i made a mistake in wearing tight wellies with 2 layers of socks!! hence no room for air to circulate. normally wear just rigger or work boots and decent socks!!!
If you want anything added to this please PM me and I will add it to this for all the guys to see.
Please remember Guys we are out on the 18th to have a good days fishing enjoy a little light banter and catch a bit of dinner.
I will reitterate Kopite has done an excellent job of sorting the boats and keeping it all in check, "we can all thank him by catching more fish than him and gloating LOL" seriously the success of this trip will determine the way forward for future trips whether inshore or offshore.
The Thames Forum I believe is one of the strongest forums on this site and that is down to everyone who gives input and ideas so keep up the good work lads and lasses.
I will have a camera and be uploading all pictures from the day and boat 2 afloat, feel free to bring your own camera's and be David Bailey in between Catching big fish so everyone can experience this day.
Do not forget:-
We will be out for around 8 hours and need to be prepared.
I don't mean to state the obvious but (Reminder to Cabrat)
Rod reel rigs weights tackle etc,
Bait "enough for just under 8 hours fishing"
Very Warm clothes and Boots.
A few quid for sweep on boat(Not compulsary) Pub after !!!
Food (Microwave or Gas hob Available on Boats) but you will want to eat.
Drink (I believe Tea/coffee available on boat) Water or any other beverages.
Sea sick tablets or medication.
A bag to take away your rubbish.
Please if possible try to have any No2's before we sail as not sure of toilets etc.(Could be Bucket n Chuckit) with frozen bits ???? Thanks Dean.
"Captain" Cabrat (Well Captain for one day haha) |

Nice job Kopitecol and Cabrat.
Come on Boat 2.
I can't wait.
My Uptider and ABU 7000 reel are ready.
Hope everyone catches something and that I have the biggest something.
Just one question, does anyone know how big the tide is so we will know roughly how much lead we will need to hold bottom ?(obviuosly different for uptiders to downtiders)
Look forward to meeting you guys

the weather reporters change their mind like...................??????
the weather!!!
dont worry to much the estuary is sheltered compared to lots of other venues!!!! dont start a frenzied panic lol
anything over about 70mph and we will be beach bound ............... southendfisherman came up with an idea a few weeks ago which we have kept to ourselves to stop the scaremongerers, BLACK JETTY if its a blow out |

Have a great day out lads, will be interesting to read the report and look at the pics. I would of loved to have come along but have no sea legs, I am alright when the engines running and dont mind it rough tbh the rougher the better, as soon as those engines switch off and the boat starts to drift I am done in turning green then grey with a spinning head lol. |
