fished from 7 through till midnight. used a normal sliding trace on the first rod with big hook and whole squid, looking for the cod!!! on rod two i had a three hook flapper with lug and squid tips, the idea being catch some small stuff to eliviate the cold and boredom.
not a thing till about an hour from high tide, had some interest in the flapper which returned a 6"ish dab. at about 11.30 i had another dab around the 1lb mark. probably had about ten bites all night. fog was thick and freezing, but i was warm as toast!!! both dabs fell to the bottom hook of the flapper, although i did get a couple of knocks on the big bait.
perhaps the best thing to come from the night was watching the dab bites, very distinct.......now starting to see the differance between species. not saying i could tell you all the time whats what but building more confidence in bite detection
i.e codling big knocks....whiting ferrocious rattling, dabs more like an over zealous crab with continual small tugging! (waits to be corrected ) |

cabrat.the steps are not good in freezing fog and ice, landings were really really procarious........also there are metal joiners at periodic intervals along the walk and they too were slippery as the proverbial eel!!! the cold was not an issue as i layered up well. essexdangler walked up with me and watched, also a couple of guys from isle of dogs who had no luck. was well pleased with the larger dab and the colouring was awesome. very vivid yellow spots!!! |

Being a Liverpool Fan Poor Col is so full of hot air he was fishing in shorts and Teeshirt Thursday ..Ha ha
You could always Stoke the fire but don't draw your breath too quick, when working as a team away from home Nothing 0 I mean Nothing 0 will keep you on top forever after just making a point!!
Was that kryptic enough to let you know Liverpool didn't win today ha ha... |

kopitecol raised a serious issue that no one has replied to, that is the rubbish that WE (that was meant to be in capitals) leave behind.
I don't like fishing any stretch of the estuary (Gravesend to Sheppy) now because of the state of the beaches, each time I do go I come back with one or two carrier bags full of other sea fishermans rubbish.
I go fishing to :-
1) Catch fish and if big enough eat them (the bigger the better).
2) Enjoy the surrondings and wildlife.
I would be willing to join in a clean up group, what do others feel, are you fed up with the state of the beaches we fish and willing to do something about it, or are you one of those who dump your waste where you fish for others to stand on, clear up for you or for the tide to wash away on to another beach.
