as a rule of thumb, the cod/codling will most likely be around for three days either side of peak spring tide(were extra lucky this time, as had a SW blow just before)
I've found most of my fish being taken in the two hours leading upto high tide and the 1st hour after slack water....but dunge should fish well all the way up from low water if conditions are right (coloured water)
yellowtails seem to be the killer bait, and lots of em, plenty scenty, but blacks almost as good....squid to tip off if poss.
this seems to apply to most of the deep water around the power station, although certain spots probably have an edge, the point being one, but can get v. busy.
hope that helps...blah |

Glad to hear i inspired you Blah, thats the value of these posts, hearing about the early catches of cod back in september certainly got me ready to hit the beach as soon as the spring tides coincided with a lull in the storm weather.......exactly the conditions you explained!.
...personally i rarely fish in daylight these days, party because my castings a bit suspect, and because the fish generally move in closer. I also rarely fish a Friday or saturday night, to avoid the crowds, and it also means i have the luxury of walking 30yds uptide to cast, to offset the effect of the strong tides.....bit spooky out there all on your own though!! -
i think this season is mostly over now, unless a good low pressure system comes along in the next two weeks, i wont bother after the mid jan springs, i'll sit it out and wait for the summer mullet.....and start planning my assault on next years bigger cod..... |
