Spent a few hours around by the lighthouse at Dungeness saturday night fishing the tide up and high tide.
Got one nice codling to squid & lug on a Pennel rig. Whiting were out in force snaffeling any lug that hit the water, so pickup up ten whiting. The fishing was better close to shore, 30m or so, if that.
Plenty of weed in the water, I'm still trying to work out if the glowy bits in it were natural or a by-product of the power station. I'll tell you if all my hair falls out, although I haven't got much left anyway.
It was pretty busy though, and we had one guy who squeezed in between us and the next guys, but luckily he was trying to cast over to france so there wasn't any real problem.
Nice enjoyable night in all. |

hello lads
my first trip to dungie on a comp i got some of that glowing weed and did wonder myself if it was to do with the powerstation , but i was info that its normal since then ive seen it at milford shingle and avon beach i cant remember the name for it but basiclly looks the colour of glow lights , im sure someone might know the name and reasons why it glows up , tbh i think its like a layer on the weed .
thanks

I'm sure the weed is pretty safe.
Besides, I haven't seen any fish coming out with ten eyes, two heads or glow.
Then again if they did glow they would be a hell of a lot easier to catch.

Now I'm waiting for the Men In Black knock down my door and shine a pen light in my eyes
Remember, the truth is out there....Well more than the fish were Saturday night any way! |

was it too much cider lol i have the answer it is a plankton called phosfluorescent and glows just like a tip light when disturbed i have encountered this in the thames and around the mouth of the medway at certain times of year when the sea is calm and the boat passes through the water it looks amazing and it looks like the prop is on fire. i first see this when fishing dungie too glad it wasn't the mushrooms |

the glowing weed is called phospheros. as the water temp drops it will disperse. you probly get more down your way because of the outlets .producing warm water. but i have caught it all over the place. hope thats solved it |
