Hi needafish,
well i caught a crab... but not on my hook.... i had pulled in a large amount of line from Dungeness beach which was someones left overs from a snag i presume... amongst it was a medium sized crab trapped by one of its legs.

i once managed to drag in the smallest dover sole i've ever seen,
it was approx 1 inch long and had got caught between the wire and lead of an unsprung breakaway. |

I have had a seagull which I caught in midflight, it flew into my line just as I cast and got in a right tangle. It almost drowned trying to bring it in as it got more and more tangled trying to escape. I was covered in deep peck marks by the time I cut all the line off it. Some gratitude eh!
Another time while boat fishing off Dungeness in about 140 ft of water I caught what thought was a big Ray. After 30 minutes of playing it and slowly pumping it to the surface in a strong tide I found...
A Sainsburys carrier bag half full of sand, silt and pebbles!
My fishing buddy that day was later my Best Man, you can imagine what a laugh he got at my expense when the speeches were made!   |

Mine has to be where, like Geejay, I have caught a pipefish between the wire and lead on a breakaway.
Oh and don't know if this counts,. but this happened last week whilst on hols in North Devon.
I was night fishing on Ilfracome Harbour wall when had monster take .....cluch set a tadish too light line streeming off and belting to the right of me where it promptly ran over two ather anglers lines what a mess well tangled.......we all had good laugh though and they introduced themselves and spent a good couple of night s fishing with them both, after that so "caught" two good mates ..............and lost cracking fish! |

I must be one of those unlucky fishermen. As a kid I caught fulmar (or rather it wrapped in my line) but luckily an elder chucked his towel over it and untangled before it regurgitated on me. Since then I've caught another line with a whitie attached (had to put it back as in a comp and the number of hooks were obviously exceeded) . I've caught many small white ragworm from the river wear in amongst all of the silt. I've caught a HAG fish wrapped round my gripper and a crab round my gripper. I've also caught a plastic patio chair (which I managed to reel in) and a speedboat as a kid (which I didn't manage to reel in) I also have had various other boats, items of clothing, debris and a fridge since. As you can tell I quite like to fish rocks now a rivers can throw out some strange things. |

I have a few friends that have caught crabs without using rod, line or hooks. They actually started in a pub buying a few drinks for women on a hen do. I will leave the rest to your imagination |

Was once fishing off the end of Southend Pier. The tide started to race out on the ebb and my rod nearly got pulled over the side. Anyway, I started to bring it in with little progress. Felt just like the odd thornie that I have caught off the beaches. After about five minutes, I saw the leader knot appear out of the water. A guy raced over with a drop net and lo and behold, my catch was tangled round the lead weight. What a surprise, a pair of mens trousers. They were in quite good condition and I still wear them, but only on special occasions........ |

Lol Tim, I must admit I don't still wear them. No one ever invites me out.
P.s PVC does look nice. Just the barnacles that spoil them. |
