Hi Guys
Am thinking of getting the missus to buy me an Abu Garcia Esprit 13ft rod rung for a multiplier for christmas. Was just wondering if anyone has gt one or used one and what they are like.
Many thanks

I have the uptider version and it has stood up to a lot of punishment over several seasons so I think the quality should be there. |

I dont know about the Suveran RX, but i do have a Suveran XP (as well as a 12ft Esprit) took them both out last night.....
suveran - you have to use a powerful ground cast on a long drop or a pendulum to bend it properly, as a overhead cast no matter how hard you cast only bends 2-3ft of the rod .
Esprit - Casts very well not quite as far, but is easy to load the rod and cast it without your bait exploding
Suveran - Stands up very well to strong tides and doesnt blow about in the wind at all
Esprit - Wobbles in the wind a tiny bit, but bends over quite a Lot in a strong spring tide, sometimes ruining bite detection where the rod is nearly locked as it would when you cast
Esprit - The bite detection is amazing, can see a whitind nibbling at my bait after casting out 100 yds
Suveran - Bite detection is pants. End of !!
But like i said that is the XP version. Wish i had bought two esprits now |

My buddy has an Abu esprit and has served him very well.
No complaints. A good value rod , in his words.
Hope this helps
Ade. |

Excellent comments from Essexkenny there. Sounds like most folk would want something in between for general work. Maybe need to look at some other stuff before buying although I do fancy the Esprit for close in work. From what he says, I reckon it would be great for sole fishing and the like. |

Your right Eccles, its a good rod like it a lot and may even soon invest in a second!!
Its just not too good if you try casting 7 or 8oz of lead, but its lovely and light to cast and hold and its caught me a few cod over the last couple of winters, but the suveran is way over the top for fishing around where i live!! |

Have you actually casted one , or do you mean you held it in your hands , good luck on your choice |

i only held it in my hands with my chosen reel attched and dry cast outside the shop. I know not the same as actually casting rig, bait and weight but I felt it wasn't for me. |

I've got a Suveran RX, cant fault it really. Quite stiff in the mid section and butt, but has quite a soft tip. Casts 4-6oz, and casts well. Has a sliding reel seat for up or down the butt casting. Also comes with a reducer...
I think Abu have just realised a new range of rods for 2008 called 'Hellbenders' or something like that, and they look good too..
Just tryin' to get her indoors to agree to a Zziplex or Century - |
