Just out of interest - do many anglers know just how far 100yards is?? |
I would hazard a guess that 100 yards is...100 yards- LOL- But a point well made pompeylocal- 100yds with bait is a good old cast and will put a lot of force onto the bait- unless you're backcasting which is perfect for hitting a 3 hook flaping rig long distances without destroying the bait because of the long drop and slow cast. |

100 yards = 91.44 metres or 9144 centermetres or 300 foot is that good enough |

one more than 99 and one less than 101.
Easy way to measure your cast is to stick a 100 yard spool of line on an old reel and just lay it out over a fiel and mark the end with a stick - if you cast further, get a longer bit of line - having it on an old reel means you can just reel it in when your done. Only takes a minute or two. |

Well done, imperial to metric conversion is a dying art; imperial, to metric, then a conversion of metric to smaller metric units, followed by a conversion back to different Imperial units is unheard of! Do you use a slide rule or Google?
Anyway, I wasn't trying to belittle anyone with my remark. It's just that I hear people saying they can cast 100 yards all the time and I seriously doubt that many really do get that far.
Also the length of rod makes a difference. If you use a shorter rod, then the acceleration of the cast has to be that much greater and clips simply help keep your bait in tact/on the hook as well as aiding distance.. So if you have a massive rod then you may well be able to hit 100yards without totally destroying your bait. Alas mine is only 13foot (I won't bother converting that to meters or 'centermeters' - whatever they are?) and even a relatively gentle flick out can test blow lugs strength to breaking point. |

Well said mate. As I have said in many posts distance can be an asset but it is not always a requirement. So lomg as you can reach the fish why bother what distance you are achieving. I have to smile sometimes when I see folk on a pier casting to the wild blue yonder when the majority of fish are under their feet.
