I have used the abu 6500c3 since it came out.
I soon bought a ct cage for it, it has never let me down.
I am going to buy a new reel soon,so that I can use two rods.
I am thinking of getting the daiwa 7ht. |
Good choice mate. |

Chryton - The rim that i'm talking about is the rim on the actual spool. When line runs off the multiplier it runs of the spool obviously but if the spool is going faster than the line is falling or stripped-off then it coils and will lead to birdies. If it only takes you two minutes to get this perfect before using your reel for the first time, then you don't look after your gear properly. You should have read and understood properly before dissing mate. |

AH, let me see if I'm reading this correctly - are you saying that when you first put line on a mulipliers spool , it would take hours to get the line lay correct - is that what you are saying?
If this is true, then when casting, I normally take most of the line off the spool and have to re-lay the line for every cast. This takes a matter if minutes to reel back in - not hours as you suggest.
The "coils" that come off a multiplier are normally due to not reeling in under constant tension - which can also introduce loops to the line lay and again blow the reel up. I look after my gear as much as I should, but 2 hours for spooling up seems unneccessarily long to me. |

Cryton - You tweak the spool float control knob(s) so that the rim of the spool is aligned with the cage within a fraction of a millimetre or if possible bang on. Then you load your spool with line under tension and you then gentle pull the line and it should fall off the spool without over-running causing the line to coil-up. This does not take seconds, it can take hours to get it bang on, especially with a floating spool. If you use your reel before doing this properly then one rim of the spool will wear down and you've just damaged your reel. The next time you strip your reel you should look at the rim of the spool and I guarantee that one side will be worn down more than the other. Once this happpens your reel is going to be short lived and you would probably be better off buying middle of the range reels. Cryton you've just had a Rimmer moment. AHAHAHAHAHAH |

Its only just recently since the 7,000 series have been classed as a light boat reel, God knows why. Previous to the small reels coming into being the Abu 7000 series was classed as one of the top casting reels you could buy. Who the hell moved the goalposts? The 7,000 series was and always will be a casting reel in my eyes. I will however give ground and admit that it does make a good light boat reel. It is superb for uptiding as well. |

Cryton - You got the wrong end of the stick and quickly turned it into a joke. All I did was make a post about something that you clearly did not know. Next time you spend a small fortune on a precision casting reel I strongly recommend you read the instruction manual. The reel has just come out of a factory mate. Your granted leave to appeal, either accept that your wrong or make a decent case in your defence without having a strop or insulting people. Let me remind you that he who laughs last laughs the longest. Rimmer |

Hitting 240 yards in a casting comp is like weighing in a Pemble at a fishing comp. Maybe if you tweaked your reels you may get a little further. Good tournament casters run their reels in first after tweaking. Just read the intructions mate. So you trust the people in the factory to align your spool before use. Don't worry mate the joke is on you. |
