On holiday near Suffolk coast

Hi all, staying near Woodbridge for a couple of weeks in early August. Can you suggest anywhere within 20 miles i can escape from my family and get a bend in my rod.
I'm thinking in terms of bass/mullet/flatties. Do you have any mackerel over there as well?

Hi pugwash,you are probably as near to one of the best suffolk marks as you are likely to get in my opinion.Orford island is about as good as it gets around there and you are only about a 20min or so drive away.You will need to catch the ferry from Orford quay to the island and details will be available from Saxmundham angling where you can also pick up some decent bait.Keep an eye on this forum though cos there are other guys on here who will give you some decent info as to how its fishing.
You can expect tocatch anything on there,sole,bass,doggiesand if they are still about smoothies are a possibility.

Hi head for the lighthouse area it's about 10-15 min walk but its cleaner there so less tackle loss,as for bait I always take lug, rag, squid and peeler if ican get it (may only be frozen available round here at the moment unless you can bring some with you).

The only access is by NT ferry from Orford Quay, with boats crossing regularly to the Ness between 10 & 2 only, the last ferry leaving the Ness at 5 pm.
I think the price is £6.50
In August you should be ok for the weather.
A few years ago my mates got stranded on the ness due to bad weather, they had to spend another 14 hours trying to shelter from the cold

Brilliant, thanks even more. Thanks for the bait tips as well. I've no idea what its like there, how shallow etc. Does anyone spin for bass at all.
